TBT video on overpowered airguns.

Yeah, I watched that when it popped up in my feed last night. A definite reminder of how the law can screw us right over if we're not careful.

I already bought a cheap £20 chrono, and it seems to work well and consistently though I have no idea as to its actual accuracy or calibration.

What the video told me is that I need to pick up just a daft 50p notebook to keep with it. Written records of having tested my guns periodically (or after any fiddling) with both heavy & light pellets should at least serve as evidence that I've done my due diligence in keeping legal, hopefully isuring against potential jail time should anything go wrong.
 
I do have two chronos, and check my guns when being actively used, or after changes.
If they are stored needing work (slow leaks, bad regulator etc.) I don't specifically get them out and double check.
That video reminded me, it takes just one being over for the rest to be forfeit.
 
Although I have 3 chronos I tend to carry the FX one because it’s easy and realistically a nobrainer in my book. There’s no excuse.

But I’ll be honest I didn’t realise the difference in spring rifles to pcp with heavy pellets. I don’t shoot spring guns but ignorance is not a defence nowadays.

I saw this last night, a very interesting watch. I had bought a cheap chrono when testing my first PCP and was able to work out the power output using a handy spreadsheet. If your chrono (like mine) only reads in feet/sec, then input your figures and it calculates the power (ft/lbs), along with other useful data.

Quite an interesting watch. I purchased the below Chrono from AliExpress for about fifteen quid delivered. It’s been out and about with me, had various guns over it and compared to other more expensive Chronos and I can confirm that it is highly accurate. It only measures in metres per second but you can punch the numbers into any of a number of online calculators on your phone to get a conversion. It’s a decent bit of kit that I’d highly recommend

Watched it this morning. That poor bloke with £18k worth of guns possibly gone.

I’d be horrified.

If you haven’t got a chrony, get one. ☝️
 
It also highlights that regardless of what power you might happen to set up an individual rifle or pistol at, they are all "capable". It's very much luck of the draw. It's why they won't specify a particular weight of pellet for testing, it gives a very wide window of opportunity for prosecution if they feel it necessary.
You have to wonder what the individual mentioned in the video did to warrant seizure in the first place.

With the new UK laws that have paved to way to eliminating privacy, the chances are unknowable, and it's a huge bet you're laying out without knowing the odds.

Like TBT says - there's not a legally prescribed test, so they could do something stupid, measure >12fpe, and exact whatever they think is "justice".

TBT states in that linked video that they have had all their guns taken off them, and I think they're a trustworthy and respectable member of the community - because ultimately the "bellend" doesn't need to be the owner of the rifle, but could be any old person that has whatever motives for reporting you.

Hey mate, one of our very own members had a load of guns taken off him to be tested after he injured himself and a visiting paramedic reported to the police what he’d seen when treating him. Sometimes it’s just the luck of the draw….

It would seem to me then, that instead of trying to hide my pastime of shooting in MY own back yard, folk may be better served nippin' things in the bud by fully laying their cards on the table & telling the neighbors you :
A) are a shooter
B) it's my back yard & safe measures in place
C) invite em' over & educate 'em
That'd save a bunch of curtain twitchin' & nervousness, due to ignorance...yes ?
It ain't like y'all are geezin' heroin or some shi*te.

Nail on head Jay, most sheeple don"t like guns.
I've lived in the same location for 15 + years now, and i still dont like walking the 30 yard stretch to my car with my gear, and i shoot at least 3 days a week now -
a certain amount of paranoia goes hand in hand with gun ownership unfortunately, particularly when you hold section 1 as well as sub 12.
