Taipan Vetran MK1, MK2 & Tactical information thread

Taipan Vet 2. In .22

As we all know these come into the country strangled to sub 12. Mine struggled to make 10.5 fpe, shot count was 60 and reg set at 135 bar.
Really well built and good to work on.
Changed to Transfer port, dropped the reg to 85 bar, and changed out the hammer spring for a lighter one.
It's now makes 11.6fpe, with a spread of 2 fps over a 26 shot string, and over 190 shots per fill. Oh and, laser accurate.
If anyone is thinking of getting one for Christmas, then DO IT, they are brilliant.!!! 😀

Well done Neil 🤝.

You are now the official Taipan (Doctor).

It beggars belief that manufacturers and importers still bodge stuff to suit our power levels, I expect it with budget stuff as it’s mass produced but I’d of thought/hoped Taipan would of at least put the effort into what is an excellent high end pcp and allow it to shoot at its best at our and indeed all levels.
How hard is it to get a setting for sub12 and others and carry it out at assembly 🤷🏻‍♂️

Absolutely agree with everything you've said.
BUT...as some have already they've done a very clever marketing job on what is essentially a full f.a c rifle.

Those that have purchased the tactical version would be none the wiser to all the fine tuning & man hours that have gone into achieving the desired result on the cylinder versions & making them efficient which in effect has made the shot count more than respectable.

Remember the tactical versions have the tube & bottle so were probably up near 300 shots out the box.

Imagine picking this right up From New like myself & a few other members have & quickly discovering this beautifully made rifle is doing 60/70 shots from a near full fill😞.

I was more than disappointed & when the supplying dealer tells you it's normal 🤬....& to rub salt into the wound the official importer doesn't even acknowledge two emails!!.
Well they lost the further business of a near 2k Rifle off me because of it.

I would have been up the creek without a paddle without help off a few fantastic members on here 🤝.

It’s not just Taipan Karl, plenty of others just sell bodged down stuff and some just will not fix the issues of waste after years and years of having the problem, just look at the r10 as this is one of the worst and yet bsa still keep making waste air, obviously most imported stuff suffers too and from my experience the only company that dived in to help Uk customers was Airmaks with Chris doing excellent work getting setting sorted, not sure if that’s still the case now theres a different importer.
I guess it’s the reason I won’t buy anything new over a £k if it will need putting right how ever good it might be, I’m happy to buy cheaper stuff and dive in as I can accept it needs it tlc due to bulk budget assembly lines, but if say a Taipan is £1650 and it would cost an extra £25 or £50 more to be setup properly why not just do it and sell your customer the best version of your product rather than a bodged effort for such a small amount less, to me it’s got be the worst self promotion a company could / can do showing very little respect to their customer and product.

Just look at the Snow peak ap900 thread, these guys accept it needs sorting out and setting up to Uk power and the price reflects that, a £k plus gun shouldnt need work out the box.

And off thread a wee bit, how do you compare the Vet to the Krait now you’ve had a chance to use them both mate

Absolutely agree with all of that & you echo what a lot of frustrated rifle buyers feel.

I dread to think what sort of cost it would be if they were taken to gunsmith with shop overheads 🤔.
I love my quality PCPs & have gained knowledge on them & other accessories Inc different mounts/ scopes etc but I just don't have the brains to start tuning & stripping down guns .

I haven't put the Krait through it's paces enough to make a thorough comparison yet but I think it will be a very close call.

The weather's been horrendous & coupled with work... quality daytime testing conditions have been limited!....I will say the Krait Lite (long) is very accurate & smooth straight out the box 👌, just got to get the fill probe improved so I'll probably go for an upgrade on that so the filler isn't exposed all the time.

Regarding the Taipan....I believe the regulator is down to around 70/75Bar now... some quick tests yesterday over the chronograph showed fantastic consistency & it averaging around 11.7/8ftlb with 16gr pellets.

The New transfer port has been machined to 2mm & a softer hammer spring & it's still set up nicely with the hammer spring adjustment with scope to adjust if required & the factory seal still sits on nicely.

Hoping for around 200 shots From a 250 bar fill.

My knowledgeable gunsmith 😉... reckons that with a smaller plenum the shot count could well increase further but for the moment I'm more than happy.

Range-right are the importers, I had no response to an email I sent them. I suspect they will only supply RFDs, you will need to order through them, probably 😀
I would be interested in a barrel kit to, I will be keen to know if you are successful 👍
So I've been speaking to some guys and got a definite YES a barrel kit can happen. You'd have to order and it would come over in tbe next container, but it can happen.
