Sub12 Goes Over The Limit What Do You Do (Hypothetically)

Hypothetically this hasn’t happed but……

If you had an air rifle sub12 suddenly jump over the limit and you were not a tinkering type of guy, what do you do.

As taking it to a gun shop it is now an FAC rifle and depending on the gun shop you may not get it back.
Asking questions on many forums about anything to do with over the limit and no FAC seems to be a no no.
If your unfamiliar with some of todays Gucci guns sticking your fingers in could do more damage than good.
Where do you turn.

If new and under warranty then it's back to the shop you bought it from. If out of warranty or a used purchase then either find someone who can fix either on here or locally.

iI don’t know anyone personally on this forum and I wouldnt know who to turn to locally with out asking the question openly on a forum

hypothetically , if you are that worried , technically inept and need instant results then simply disable the rifle until you find a permanent solution.

The most basic form being ,

PCP - Drain it of air .

Springer - Remove action from stock and store separately .

YouTube for video on how to disassemble the gun then and a post on here asking if anyone knows how to put it back together might work then. If it's in bits or won't hold air because of a missing o ring it can't be over and then whoever puts it together for you (eg blackmax for hw100 or Steve at hw100 tuning or Deleted member for Springers) would send it back working and under the limit.
I'm sure if the hypothetical owner was to put up a post asking about someone to service their hypothetical gun a few discussions via pm with someone on here would soon have it sorted out.
If it was my ultra that had went over the limit I'd remove a couple of parts and take it to Carl at airtech for a service (it's got his reg and tuned by him and he's local to me)

get rid of all your sub 12's and keep your FAC registered ones and hey presto that risk has gone.

Depending what rifle it is, find out how to disable it and take it to somebody to repair. Drain it of air and remove the cylinder at the very least, if possible. Depends what gun it is really.

Hypothetical questions are great in principle but in reality there is a whole catalogue of circumstances leading to any incident.
Modern air rifles don’t “suddenly jump over the limit”, there is or are reasons for this power increase and they need to be explored to find an equitable quick and lawful solution.
My first question is how do you know it’s over the 12ft/lb limit and is the chrono tested and trusted.

Presumably you would be taking it to the gun shop for repair i.e to make it sub 12 again so you would get it back

Regardless of WHY or HOW or IF it's gone over, the simple solution is to send it to someone who can sort it.
Plenty on here can and will do it for you, it's just a matter of posting a request.
As for making it "non illegal" instantly that's simple too. Take the action out of the stock if it a Springer or drain it of air if it's a PCP.

Take the breech seal out until you can find someone ( preferably through strong recommendation ) to get it safely below for you. IF it's not been opened up before this could be of benefit to get it tuned.

Just start a thread “Can someone give me advice regarding a (insert rifle type)”.
Then post in the thread a request for help with your rifle via PM. Meantime, disable rifle.

It's really not a hard question: just take it back to an RFD and ask them to fix it, if you are not confident doing it yourself.

That having been said, people on the forum here are always happy to help advise (over PM) on how to detune rifles to ensure they remain sub-12.

Separately, my understanding is that an FAC slot for air will not be an option for target shooters, as the FEO's do not see this as 'Good Reason'. I would be interested to hear if there are any examples to the contrary. Instead I think FAC air is just for hunting.
