As said, Steyr are using what they have with the self indexing block and bolting what they can onto that. It's a proven design and saves them re tooling.
I think they should have raised the picatinny up on the stock and provided a dovetail to picatinny rail to bridge the gap to give you a continuous rail imho
Edit: As I haven't handled one is the stock actually plastic or aluminium

Whats the accuracy like compared to the normal auto 5? The air 5 had a smaller barrel so im worried it might suffer on accuracy at 50 yards.

If it helps my 177 steyrs in order of accuracy are Challenge (quite comfortably ahead) , Air 5 & H5A are unsurprisingly equal, the most fun is the Pro-x in 22 but not as tight. The air 5 is super pointable and I really like the screw on moderator

I have a H5 and a Prox along with an Air 10

They are all as accurate as each other

...i was under the impression the Air 5 had a half inch Allen key adapter like the H5A?.. I've had a shroud made now which looks much smarter but this very issue was putting me off purchasing the air 5 in .22.

I love my 177 air 5, it's brilliant.

It's perfect for double tapping squirrels and has no problems with rabbits.

This week I got a tripod,


I put a arca swiss on the uit to add to the picitiny I had already fitted.





I have got it all set up just how I want it now, my only disappointment was I got a hawke carbon fibre bipod which was terrible and started to fall apart after a few weeks, I have taken it off and put a spare Chinese copy on while I look for a quality bipod, although the cheap Chinese bipod is surprisingly good for £20.



I'm really happy with it, the tripod and arca swiss were a very reasonable £240 and feel solid as a rock and easy to operate.
