Software

Has anyone tried Shap3r 3D ?

I tried the free version last night on my iPad and found it so easy to use and instantly had something designed that I’d like to get printed. The drawback with the free version is that I can only export in low resolution and after reading comments and reviews a lot of people seem this to be useless for 3d printing.

Is it still possible to print from low resolution files ? Would something simple still work ?

For very occasional use I can’t justify the price of the proper version and I only have an iPad currently so I can’t use the free software for a pc.
Yep Love Shapr3D, i came over to it from TinkerCAD but i still use them equally (probably even tinkercad more)

Solidworks.
It’s my job so have Solidworks Professional Certification. I also teach Solidworks and give demos to school kids.

If I pretend to be a school kid can you teach me? Lol I'm terrible. I still use TinkerCAD for A LOT
Use your planes. First thing I teach the school kids as they usually all have some experience of CAD software.
Planes are your friend.

I started in Tinkercad and still use it a lot. Especially if I want to modify someone's design that doesn't quite fit my purpose.
I'm now also using FreeCAD. A bit of a steep learning curve, but I'm getting it.
Good for me for the more geometric designs.

Solidworks is a powerful software. I've been using it since 1997 and had my own seat since 2000 doing machine design.

Problem with a lot of this pro software is that it is expensive - particularly for a hobbyist. Tinkercad is free (for now), and there are free versions of the pro software, but with limitations (like no commercial use), and they can pull the rug from under you at any time.

I would recommend FreeCAD purely for its open source nature - and price of course!

I have nomad sculpt which is just under £20 it is similar to Zbrush which is loads more,It is like being back at school trying to learn it

Pro software is absolutely expensive. I pay about $2000 per year to keep my Solidworks subscription current but this is my livelihood. They may have student or hobbyist versions available but still not free.

Now that I've rekindled my love of shooting, I guess it only makes sense to unbox the 2x 3d printers I got years ago and see what mods I can make.
Although, they are only cheap ones (Ender 3 pro & a Geeetech A20), I'm hoping I can use them to get "Back into it" before I scrap them and buy something decent.

There is now a Makers version of Solidworks that can be had for £30 per year. There are two versions. Web based and PC installed.

How stripped down is it? Have they removed a lot of the capabilities? Since Solidworks removed the 2nd seat capability I'm unable to share with friends.

I haven’t tried it personally. But I think it has nearly everything there but they have stripped away all the extra stuff like CAD-CAM, wiring etc.
