So we've had the rudest incident at a range, what's the most dangerous that you've seen

Gentleman shooting clays in front of me with a section 1 spas. Get a jam and then proceeds to try and clear the jam kinetically whilst barrel sweeping everybody behind him. I've never moved so quickly in my life.

I also saw somebody close their shotgun and the thing went off instantaneously.... The range safety officer was absolutely giving him hell and I had to step in and say that I had been idly sitting behind him and I can guarantee his finger was nowhere near the trigger... It made a dent in the ground about the same size as large beer can. Thankfully apart from his trousers there was no damage

I was at a commercial, indoor range where you book hourly sessions.
There are five lanes for rifles and two lanes for pistol shooting.

Whilst there, the people on the pistol lanes repeatedly swung pistols all over the place.
The staff noticed it and stepped in to give advice, etc., but it didn't seem to make a lot of difference.
Fortunately there wasn't an accident (incident?) but it was quite disconcerting and I stepped away after less than ten minutes on the range.

Happily, the staff gave me another session booked for another day.

We used to let people have a go of our air rifles at the Cheshire Game Show at Peover Hall.
£1 for 6 shots, we used to make 200-300 quid for charity, hard work it was.
We set up a range with typical FT targets, behind every target was a haybale, what could possibly go wrong?

Well this pissed up twat ran down our cordoned off range with us shouting at him and took a Geoff Hurst.
We were very very temped to you know what.

It had been a quiet morning with a fairly low turnout. Another hour to go before official packing up time, I was on my own on the HFT practice course. I’m at the peg, rifle shouldered, roughly aiming at a tin squirrel while estimating range. About 20 yards behind the squirrel another member without a care in the world wandered across my line of fire 😳😳. Apparently they were packing up early because it was quiet. No ceasefire had been called.

Early days on a private indoor pistol range, ready to fire on position 3. Committee sitting at the back of the range, one of the officers showing his newly acquired P08 9mm. Took his position on firing point 1, shot 4 rounds, had a jam. Fiddle fiddle, curse, retired to the back of the range. I was still on the firing point BANG. Shot went past my shoulder, lotts of Effing went on..............
BIG inquisition by the committee, apologies, and they thought everything was fine, silly mistake. "Oh and I get carried out in a zip up bag, not good enough. Experienced officer member, leaves the firing point with a jammed round up the spout!"
I was livid, spoke to several other members and a Extraordinary AGM was called. Result, committee resigned, several left, and I became secretary. Things ran on a very strict discipline after that.

On a large country estate that will remain nameless, we were shooting running rabbit when two couples visiting the house decided to wander across in front of guns as we were shooting ... the marshall had nipped off back to his car to fetch his ciggies and thought it'd be alright Homer face palm

Probably me shooting my self in the finger as a teen, I've mentioned it on here before but, rifle scope on a gamo compact, left hand on fore end of the pistol, index finger crept up in front of the barrel.... Lucky nothing more than a big bruise due to low power and flathead pellets.

I didn't actually see the most dangerous incident that has happened at my current club but one evening a member was pulling out of the car park in his Alfa Steivio when the car suddenly decided it was going full throttle (with about 500 bhp), straight across the road, through a hedge and halfway through the field opposite, it was only bits of the drive train being ripped off that stopped it. Couple of months later they issued a recall for it after weeks of denying it could have happened.

Sounds terrifying!!
I’ve had both a loaded Airgun and a loaded shotgun pointed directly at my head in my lifetime… both times shook me up. The shotgun was at friends house when I was 10, we had an argument, got out of hand and ended up fighting. He picked up his dad’s 12 bore and pulled the hammers back!! His dad walked in the house, took the gun off him, hit him and broke the gun and two red things came out… so assuming it was loaded?? I was told to go home!!

That was 47yrs ago
I still wonder what would have happened if his dad hadn’t walked in!!
The Airgun was a team leader at work 6/7yrs ago
Pointed the gun directly at my head!! Was reported but nothing happened!! Says much!!

Sorry for derailing the thread

Not on a gun range, but scarcely better. On more than one occasion, we had someone walk in front of the targets during an archery shoot, while we were actually shooting! Climbed over the barrier rope, ignored our shouts and whistles, ignored the arrows in the targets, looked surprised when we suggested they walk elsewhere.

Benn muzzle flagged numerous times at the range..only ever once by the same person though. Escorted out at a run each time

Had a Franchi PA8 go off when the safety was flicked off as well...that was ...interesting

I know a guy still has a .177 pellet in his arm after standing his Shamal lent against a wire fence then jumping to grab it as it slipped, pellet went in near the elbow and stopped above his bicep. One of those people that insisted on a white doctor but walked out when one couldn’t be provided 🤷🏻‍♂️ yes, an idiot

Shooting a UKAHFT round about 15 years ago a frantic ceasefire was called when two 'ramblers' suddenly appeared behind one of the targets at the edge of the woodland. Private land so god knows what they were doing there, or indeed why they'd walk towards the sound of gunfire to find out what was going on.

Was this at Pentref Bowmen by any chance?

I was a member there for 15 years and the amount of times this happened on comp days was unbelievable

I stepped in once at Pentref when a dog walker who trespassed walked across a lane while it was being shot and he was arguing with the judge who was demanding they leave.

Their attitude and comments were "They're only bows and arrows, it's not like you're shooting guns is it?" so I politlely reminded him that the bow was a principal ranged weapon of humanity for many thousands of years before the gun, and that they can and will kill you.

Idiots, everywhere Homer face palm

No.1 At deer boar bisley a member of our club (in his eighties) put the wrong mod on his .308 and launched it down range. It only did 15 yards or so, probably because of a very poor ballistic coefficient. He is no longer a member.

No. 2 Nearly 20 years ago I was a member of Oundle gun club which we shared with Cambridgeshire tactical firearms. We weren't allowed to use the range during their sessions. But on one occasion I was at the firing point still shooting when a couple of them came in early. One of them put his bag on the bench behind me, loaded his pistol and as he turned round to place it on the firing point, muzzle swept me whilst pulling the slide back to chamber a round. That instantly ended my shooting session.

No. 3 Bisley again and police again. This time 100 yards short siberia and the Met. Whilst standing at the firing point yapping away with 2 other members, I looked left and 3 lanes down saw 3 of them yapping away like we were. The difference being one of them was holding a rifle cradled in her arms pointing directly at us, and anyone else at the firing point. I without thinking shouted at them " do you f***ing mind" as loud as I could whilst pointing at the rifle. All three of them looked at it then mouthed sorry as it was put on a bench. They didn't walk over to explain themselves or such like, in fact their attitude was almost as if I was overreacting.
