Hi folks,

I hear that the SMK BAM 40 is a pretty well respected budget option, whereas the 41 is nowhere near as nice. I've stumbled on some sort of BAM but don't know which model. Is there an easy way to tell the 40 and 41 apart visually? And is it more complicated than BAM40=XS40 and BAM41=XS41? I see some posts suggesting that the XS41 is a BAM 40...

Thanks all!

Stock on the 41 is ambidextrous. I have one and its definitely no tx but it is a very accurate rifle with a silky cocking action, no twang just a quiet dull thud. They are very hard to find now as they're no longer imported allegedly due to legal threats from air arms. The bam 40 is an even better gun but extremely hard to find. The xs20 is also an excellent rifle which also is no longer available again due to alleged legal action from weihrauch. Its an hw80 copy.

The Bam 40 had a record copy trigger, as did the early XS20, the Bam 41 and the later XS20 had a different trigger.
You can see the rear trigger adjustment screw clearly on the record copies.

I have both the later 20 and the 41, both have been through the hands of a retired excellent gunsmith which I guess makes them non original. He tells me that both are surprisingly good quality bearing in mind their origins. No theyre not either weihrauch or air arms but they certainly deserve their place in the collection of someone who supports the underdog and when the Chinese get their act together which is happening fast, other manufacturers will need to step up their game.

Xs41 done by a retired gunsmith who knows his beans. I invite anyone to visit and be blown away by the results of a China man and an English man working in harmony together.

Bam 40 has full metal barrel/underleaver catch the 41 a nasty plastic affair.

The 40 has a c.d trigger clone the later 41 has a kind of butchered version of it like the later xs20.

The one above is a 41. Barrel latch is all metal
Yes but that's not a standard catch that they come with bud. Only pics I can find and not amazing but they come plastic with a knob on side that slides back to release the underleaver.

Bam 40 is as close as you will ever get to a TX200 ,and if cleaned up and given a GOOD set of internals will shoot as good as if not better.
Mine runs at a very sweet 11.2FPE and I can cock it with one finger Thanks to a fella from Swansea.
This has had full Paul Chell treatment and is sitting in a rather nice TX200 stock...
NOTE No Plastic parts..

The 40 really is a good rifle just like the original xs20 it's a shame they ruined the later ones.

The problem with the earlier ones was they were not just clone/copies, They were so close to the originals at 1/2 the price they became a major problem for the manufacturers and had to be shall we say "Cheapened" /plasticised" in manufacture so as not to be direct competition,
The B(xs) 41 was brought out by Crosman for the US but they were so poor a copy of the TX Crosman couldn't sell them and they ended up over here with SMK markings and even they they were sold off at about a 3rd of RRP.

Crosman ended up selling what was left to NMP in Sheffield and thats where my B41 came from. It took Neil a few months to shift them but they all went to different parts of the country. I wish i had bought another to be honest.. :)..

Yes remember that my local RFD ended up with loads of them and they were cheap enough that's for sure.
