FYI - The NateChrony SmartTargets are now available directly from my AU store front & some have gone to Vector-Air in the UK & samples to other shops.

What is it:
Unboxing & setup:
10+2 lights on a deer:
2 lights with different hit indications:

We've now essentially got power & brains at a target - the possibilities are endless, welcome feedback & any requirements you may have.

These are designed to add some interesting stuff to an otherwise dull target, ensure hit detection, approx hit location - save you having to use the stick on stuff to fix hits, or keep spraying them endlessly to know where you hit.
Given the field target focus in the UK - maybe not an airgunner thing but more of a powder burner thing?

Would it work If you have any pellet catcher like the Wolfman Heavy Duty Target Holder, which has plumbers mait inside to quieten down the pellet impact. You stick the smart target on the back of it, it will still detect where the shots are landing?

The SmartTarget "has to move", newtons 2nd & all that.
If the target holder weights 1 ton & you're hitting it with 4fpe - i'd doubt it.

Can you give me:
  • Mass of the Target holder
  • Pellet weight
  • Velocity
I'll see what i can test

Ok, when i get home from work. I'll have to weigh the pellet trap and look at the weight of my .177 pellets. It will be an LP2 target air pistol so under 6ft/lb.

Thinking about it, should be able to fix it to the back of the "swing plate" inside the pellet catcher which would still move even with the plumbers mait on the front of it

Looks like a great piece of kit Nate, well done!

Probably an age thing or just stupidity or maybe both but the last two videos are just flashing lights to me and are not telling me anything.

Just for this silly old sod, could you set it up on a simple steel plate and paint the plate so I can see the pellet strike and what the lights do. Perhaps do 5 shots, centre, north, east, south and west.

I'll won't mention how confused I am by all the options :giggle:

yeah thats for the kids - there's 1/2 doz ways to configure the lights to match different target types.
So you can setup a deer different to a bull & have it look kinda interesting.

yes - will be doing the "cross" & 4 LEDs next.
Here's an older video (virtual interface is crappy & old) - showing the 5 LED cross, the 4 LEDs would be the same without the center
