Has anyone fitted a Red Dot sight to a Sig Sauer P226? I've seen a video showing knocking the rear sight out with a puch but on the CO2 air pistol I do not think this is possible as the sight is recessed into the top slide.

You'll need a bridge mount which attaches the the rail underneath

Take the slide off... there's a screw which fixes the rear sight in place.

I don't like the rail mounted bridge sights either, in the past on Hi Cappa's I have used something like these:
It does need a space on your frame to mount them and the need to drill and tap it.
You could try to sketch something like it to custom fit your Sig and maybe have it 3D printed.
You could post a few close ups of the pistol in case someone has other ideas.
Good luck.

Neither the under barrel mount nor drilling the frame appeal so it looks like I will have to go with a laser or continue as is. Thanks for the ideas.

Having discounted the frame mount and drilling I am resigned to buying a laser light. I have seen videos of one that looks very neat and "snugs" up against the trigger guard but cannot find one on sale. The nearest to this I can find is the Umarex NL1. Does anyone have experience of this or any other model? The aesthetics are important so I don't want a huge round tube beneath the barrel of the gun.

Last time I looked there were dozens of these laser designators available, for only a few pounds, I have three of them on co2 pistols altogether, inc the P226.

I have the Umarex NL4 (Tac 1) which is slightly longer than the NL1.
It's fitted to a CP99 though so don't know how snug it would fit on the SIG.
To give you an idea:

I was hoping to get something that looks more like it's part of the pistol and not bolted on. The Umarex NL one almost acheives that.

Me too, I wanted the specific Walther laser sight for this pistol but it's discontinued.
It was either the bolt on NL1 with white writing (Not a fan) or this NL4 which just slides on and off pressing the side buttons.
Sounds like you may have to try and find one that fits the profile of the SIG.
Good luck.
