Should I get a variation from .25 to .22 FAC

I shoot .22 air FAC. Love it 68ftlb down to 18ftlb. My friends got a crown .25 loaner at the moment that im using. Handles the wind better, I would say around 50% less windage. Digi scopes handle the hold over. .25 does some serious meat damage if you're shooting for the table. Im not a powder shooter either. I like all the BS that comes with FAC air.

No reason for or against l just enjoy shooting 22 rf.

Me too... actually I have no practical need for a 22LR other than it's great fun shooting it. 🙂

The PCP is a lot less expensive to shoot and has a better accuracy, at least at my 50 meter I commonly used, so for me a 22LR does no sense, other than amusement... which is pretty valid cause of existence in my safe too...

I think you're massivly overthinking this. Let me answer this as clearly as I can for you buddy (I'm sure I already have in another post of yours) in FAC air everything a .22 can do a .25 can do better, you already have the better calibre slot dont change it.

.25 FAC generally hits harder, carries more energy downrange, resists the wind better, and expands more reliably with slugs, so overall it just delivers more impact and consistency than a .22 a .25 can also be more accurate than .22 at longer ranges because it buffers the wind better keeping those groups tighter.

As you've already mentioned you're looking at some form of variable setup like an FX Impact etc... There is very very very little benefit in chainging to a .22 you're essentially downgrading in my opinion, however you seem quite set on a .22 for reasons I can't quite understand, I could be wrong but I feel like you've been watching too many you tube videos of Matt Dubber & his South African friends going shooting and you've thought.... I want a bit of that (only natural :)) if this is the case just remember they all run their FX Rifles in .22 because you can buy them in .22 essentially over the counter license free, when they get to .25 and the energy levels can ramp up they may require a firearms license which is why they generally stick with .22 & they enjoy all the rifles FX send them for FREE, they're all sponsored by them after all.

If you're adamant you want a.22 just put in a variation and wait, let me put it this way for you, I have 2x FX Impacts both in FAC one is in .22 and the other in .25 and the .25 is far far better i will be at some point be putting in a variation to change my .22 to .25.
Hi mate sorry for slow reply. Not at all, was just oy wondering about it really. I think I will stick with .25 and just wait for something good to come up. There’s a couple of rapids in the latest holts sealed bid auction that I might have a go on…

This is totally fair enough if you enjoy everything that goes along with Air Why not! A bit like reloading for centrefire…

Hi @Navarone and a happy Easter!

Sounds like you have done the hard bit and deciding what to go for.

I'm a big fan on my 25 year old Anschutz LR - but my much more modern and tactical looking Katran .25 FAC has a place too.

Where I need to shoot around buildings or near dwellings it's perfect. I'm not a particular fan of the looks but as a point and shoot rifle it's great. I'm not into tweaking and faffing with barrels tuners and regulators - so the consistent 42 ft lbs it knocks out with bog standard 25 grainers that dump energy immediately just work for me. It's a standard length barrel so not to cumbersome either.

Anyway, looking forward to reading more about what you decide to go with and how you get in with it ......but won't be anywhere as nice as your S&L, Patrick..........😉😃.

Just put a variation in for .22FAC air and RF. Keep shooting the .25 until the variation comes through. It's working for you

Once it comes through get both of them. Shoot both of them. Compare with the .25.
You can form your own opinion then.

You know deep down this makes perfect sense.

Harder hitting the .25 fac air may be, be it's not always an advantage, it can also be a disadvantage. I deliberately use lightweight .22 pellets at circa 20ft lbs because I need more hitting power than a 12ft lbs rifle offers, but don't want too much over carry. It depends on the application, so saying that .25 fac air does everything better than .22 fac air isn't necessarily true.

Sadly this isn’t an option 😢 I originally applied for 22lr .25 FAC air and 17hmr but at interview was asked/told that the air and lr are too similar and I basically had to pick one…

That’s just weird and shows the differences between local forces etc…

I used to live in Lancashire and that’s where I originally applied for my FAC a few years back, I applied for a 2x .22 & 1x .25 Air, plus a 22LR and got all 4x granted I had good reason for all 4x and was never told I had to pick one or the other etc, you can of course fill up all your slots and apply for another, as long as you have a good reason you should get it 👍

You should have told your FEO you needed both and it’s best to own both as the AIR you intend to purchase is much lower power around 30-40ftlb and more suited to environment XXXX where as the 22LR is required in a larger more open environment where there is no air source available and produces more like 80ftlb etc so is better for rabbit control at greater ranges, basically what I’m saying is always live on the safety side of things, if your applying for both to be safer they can’t really say no (not justifiably anyway). If you let them have their own way they will walk all over you and reject as they see fit even if it makes no sense.

Don’t be scared to push back a little on your FEO as long as you have good & a safe reason via a grown up, friendly and intelligent conversation.

Thanks Phil I will let everyone know what I end up with!

Just got to wait it out and keep my eyes peeled as .25 is less available…

At the moment it’s…

Yes I probably made a slight error in mentioning adjustable power air-which then led on to well air at high power is very similar to LR.

I did use it as a bargaining chip though and said what about forget LR but is the 223 and 6.5 x 55 all ok and they were…

Keep an eye out for guns that can have interchangeable barrels. You can then have both calibres on one gun.
