Hello everyone!

Does anyone know the nearest pattern plate? I'm in Sheffield. Closest I've found is Orston Shooting Ground, Nottingham, which is 80 minutes / 61 miles.

Thanks all! Much appreciated as always!

Lining paper is good to use - tape 2 x 1m lengths side by side (as it’s normally 53cm wide, it’s perfect for that).

The ground I used didn't have one so I made a quick hammer into the ground wooden frame and fixed cardboard to it, then a sheet of plain wallpaper/ lining paper. Takes quite a few shots to wreck the cardboard (surprisingly).

Lining paper is fine I use it ,but to get nice round holes rather than tears it's better on a backing board. I use 2 layers of cardboard glued together. The cardboard I use is the container that 12kg sacks of dog food are delivered in. Many businesses will have a skip for cardboard round the back that they have to pay to get it recycled.
Perhaps they might let you lighten their load?

There is the clay shoot at upper Bradfield, just take a couple of fishing bank sticks and card or paper taped onto the sticks and fire away with the ground permission of course or just ask John at Hardy's where you could go. If you are really stuck, get your bits together and bring them over to me and I will let you test on one of my perms.
I take it you now have a replacement gun...

Have you asked around the clay grounds.
Not lived in Sheffield for a long time but both my local claygrounds will put up a pattern plate if asked.
It's a nice easy money maker, why would they not.

Have you not got a field you can set your own up ?
You only need a sheet of paper 1m3 and a tape measure .

Unfortunately I don't have any land permissions secured.

I will bear it in mind!

Sounds good.

The one at upper Bradfield is my local, sort of speak. I can ask them, or John, or both! That is a very kind offer! Where is your nearest permission to Sheffield may I ask? Yes, new gun sorted. SP Pro 12 Black 32" extended with grade 5 walnut adjustable. I had a lot of interest up at Bradfield. Many people approached me to ask if they could look at it. Did 50 clays and hit around 42 which is a good start!

I will certainly ask around.

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions!

I have quite a number of perms but they are a few minutes from me here is North Lincs which is an hour away but if you are stuck, let me know and we can sort something.

Phil, that sounds great! I really appreciate your kind generous offer and support. I will keep you updated on how I get on and if I struggle to find anywhere, I'd love to take you up on your offer!

Hi folks,

I'll be pattern testing this weekend. Here's my reason for testing. For context, inside the bore, reflective rings are visible and should be concentric.

Both barrel's, 2/3rds down, the reflective ring is not entirely concentric. Widens to the left with a slight shaded blur to the circumstance and no breaks.

Gunsmith looked and said it is in tolerance, looks fine and won't impact performance. I stated my worry that POI would have left / right bias. He said it won't, and by any chance it did, return it under warranty.

Hopefully the POI is bang on at the recommended 30 yards.

First outing, 42 / 50 clays. Missed around 6 out of 8 trap clays flying straight and away from me "up to" 40 yards. Concerned with the barrel "thing", I aimed just left and right on the next two shots to see if there was bias but still missed.

Could just be my holdover/under for lack of better terminology was a little off. Had this with the old gun, sometimes hit most of these and other times couldn't hit a single trap clays.

Again, it's a new gun so 42 / 50 on the first outing is very good and I am probably overthinking the barrel thing. I use cylinder bottom and 1/4 top, 28g 7.5 fibre Gamebore Velocity Black.

Wrong choke for a going away target edge on, you may have hit it but not broken it although I think you simply overthinking this and before you know it, you will not trust this gun either. Stick 3/8th or 1/2 choke for that type of target to give yourself a chance but I suggest you are simply not approaching the target correctly. Shoot some DTL with someone who knows what they are doing to stand with you and see what you need to do.

Have you tried calling around the clay grounds as anywhere that does tuition probably has one and normally they are tucked around corners / in parts of the grounds that you might not normally go to. Otherwise ask your local one if you can set up something temporarily? A pallet and some card board will work

Blyton shooting ground near Scunthorpe has a pattern plate. nice ice cream parlour in Blyton when you've finished as well
