Last night my driveway camera picked up some hooded sh1tbag on my drive checking our car door handles.
The video just lasted long enough to see him walk away and into the drive of my neighbour, didn't get a shot of his face as he must've approached from the side and him walking with his back to the camera set it off.
So I'm guessing he must walk the entire length of the road checking every car on the road and peoples drives to see if they've left it unlocked.
1am in the morning! The dedication to stay awake and go for a walk just to nick spare change out of people's ashtrays, if only that dedication was aimed at not being a piece of thieving scum and I guess get a job!

Before COVID it used to happen here every 2-3 weeks. Now it's about once a year so no idea what happened. They went through my car once and took my sat nav and spare change (which I didn't care about) but also a plastic wallet with all my fishing permits and keys to lakes. Each key had a £30 deposit on it so I was fuming as they were of zero value to them (there were no identifiers on the keys). Eventually I got about 50% of the keys back as they were found in various gardens. Quite why they didn't just drop the whole plastic wallet (more clear pencil case) when they realised I have no idea - why throw the keys into different gardens ?

Assume you are going to warn your neighbours that this has happened - and may again. Many years ago some low life jemmied the door handle on my MK2 Golf and nicked my face off radio - the one time I had left it in the car overnight. Police not interested; crime number, but several other incidents reported locally at the time.

In Aberdeen and a few times there was reports of people trying house door handles and if they found one open they were walking in to the houses. Some were single mothers or the husband was out . One confronted the guy in her kitchen , He had got in the back door . He ran off but it could have ended badly .

Another had a guy try to come in the open window as he was sleeping in the room.

This in not new I know as it happened when I was younger in the 70s and 80s , I feel its worse now as they get off more now than back then .

Tik Tok and other platforms does not help either . Idiots going round trying to get in your car or house as a " prank" . There was one in the US where the car owner was in the car sitting in traffic and one of these idiots opened the door and tried to sit in the car . He got chased out but if the owner had a gun , That could have ended badly .

One in the UK known for it .

He will walk into the wrong house and it wont end well.

It happened to my mate at 5am at his rental property when they checked the cctv 2 lowlifes were checking all the neighbors doors until they found his open. They took the tenants wallet, kids ipads and the car and keys! be careful folks always check your doors before going to bed otherwise it may happen to you............cops never found them they had face masks on. one love ❤️ Ali

Sadly, this crap seems to happen most places.

It was a regular event when I lived in Newham.
The worst case was when some local scumbag started cutting the fuel pipes on parked cars to get the fuel.
It happened to my lodger at the time and a number of other neighbours - serious risks in leaving fuel draining out of cars!
Fortunately, that did not last long, just a couple of weeks - no idea why it stopped.
( It would be good to think that he blew himself up!)

Usually druggies looking for easy money to get their next fix, I reckon.

Happens quite often even here in Hemel Hempstead which is a relatively safe "sub-urban" type area; regular posts on local FB pages - always black hoodies.
Worst of all, of course, for those of us who drive a van - even removing all your tools every night is no guarantee that the ****s will not break in anyway.

Utter scum! The feckers will try anything (other than get a job) to get a few quid.
All you can do is try and make it hard for them, so they move on to an easier target.
I'd report as well, even though nowt is likely to be done about it, but if loads of reports come in, then it may get flagged?

We have one that every now and again does the rounds of our estate. Loads of neighbours have cameras, not been caught yet though.
He never breaks into an cars, rummages through ones left open.
Our dogs never hear him.

We have a low life scum that lives a couple of hundred yards away. He is a repeat offender and done porridge a few times.
He’s so thick , as he often breaks into neighbours cars literally yards away from his flat. Always caught on ring cameras around the village up to no good.
If any cars are broken into, the police just pay him a visit, as they know 99% of the time it’s him..

Our neighbour, 80ish and partially blind, had a 'visitor' early one morning, but the scrote hadn't reckoned on four collies and a very stout walking stick - he had the crap beaten out of him by her and the dogs held him in place until the 5-0 arrived. Claimed he got the wrong house and was trying to visit a friend ... except that he wasn't in Thetford at the time (17 miles away) and had a whole string of priors.

Got 2 years and a nasty infection from one of the bites 😂

Sadly this is true. It happens so frequently now, people posting on the neighbourhood forum, report it to police with camera footage and of course nothing happens. Not blaming police; lack of resource. I have reported these incidents with CCTV footage, CCTV footage of my neighbours cat converter being stolen. Nothing. A neighbour had their van stolen that contained all his tools. He reported it and said I had footage, police never requested to see it.
Crime is increasing and those committing these crimes know they are never going to be caught

Loads of the scroats in our neck of the woods , few neighbours of mine have been done. Then I saw on the local gossip group our road got done again a week ago on a friday night. We arent a million miles away from each other but its becoming a very regular occurance.
Due to lower police numbers the chances of catching then in the act is almost negligable ......even though they had a full set of golf clubs and was walking their dog at the time. Whats the chances of seeing a dog walking golfer at 2am. In this case the locals found him but i dont think they got their stuff back :(

These crimes need to be taken more seriously by the police.
When the crooks know that the police aren't interested, it just makes the scumbags bolder.

And if you apprehend a scumbag or two, then strap them to a quad and take them to the police station, YOU get arrested..... It seems the police are more interested in protecting the crooks rather than prosecuting them.
We are living in truly bizarre times.

Well at 3am this morning (after warning them this had happened) someone tried to get into my neighbours house because they always leave their front porch unlocked.
Turfed all their shoes and stuff onto their drive and tried fiddling with their front door.

A cat burglar came into my house last night at about midnight. . . But it was actually a cat.

I heard the cat flap being worked, but my cat was curled up on the settee.
However, my dozing moggy also heard the cat flap, and he was galvanised into action.
With wide eyes and his fur raised, he went to investigate.

Lots of hissing and loud merowwwling ensued.
I intervened and opened the door. . The intruder ran out at full speed.
My moggy looked very proud with himself.

If cats could call the police, my moggy would probably have been locked up for protecting his food dish...... and for doing the police's job for them.

Rightly so . look at the case of the farmer who run over a child .

A farmer who blamed children for alleged vandalism on his land mowed down a 12-year-old boy in a horror hit and run. William Stewart ploughed into the innocent youngster after mounting the pavement in his dirty Iveco van.

The 70-year-old flew into a rage after spotting the victim and a group of friends in the area of Stewart's Hawkhead House Farm in Paisley, Renfrewshire, on October 12, 2022. The boy was hit as he tried to run away from the van. He was then left crumpled in agony as Stewart fled the scene.

Stewart was this week jailed for eight and a half years at the High Court in Glasgow.

In the case of the farmer with the quad . One was legally a child so the farmer could be charged with kidnapping or false imprisonment of a child if his lawyer was to go down that route .

Sentence lengths

The statutory maximum sentence for this offence is life imprisonment. The average (mean) custodial sentence length (ACSL) for kidnapping in 2022 was 5 years 9 months. Of those sentenced to immediate custody, 82 per cent received a custodial sentence post guilty plea of up to, and including, 8 years.

The statutory maximum sentence for this offence is life imprisonment. The ACSL for false imprisonment in 2022 was 4 years 6 months. Of those sentenced to immediate custody, just over three quarters (77 per cent) received a custodial sentence post guilty plea of up to, and including, 6 years.

I agree there needs to be action by the Police if it is a Police matter but taking the law into you own hands has consequences as this farmer found and so will the one who hogtied the people to the quad I would imagine .
