Ratworks

Just chrono’d my HW100S that was Ratworked about 5 years ago. I think they did a good job, what do you think.

Quite shocked with some of the stories on here. I’ve only had one dealing with Ratworks back in 2021. Before placing my order online I rang the shop and had a nice conversation with the guy who answered the phone and he explained everything they could offer me. I took the trip up from south wales a week or so later. arriving at the shop everyone there was very welcoming and I stood around talking for about half hour before heading on my way. The work did take a few weeks to complete but nothing that dragged on too long. When I went to pick the rifle up I was met with the same welcome as before and the guy dealing with me spent some time again explaining everything that had been done and showing me a few things they found with the rifle (like water damage inside the fill gauge) and also with a sheet with some data on shot count and whatever else. This was an almost brand new BSA R10 TH that I took there that had the full works done by them including carbon shroud and new regulator and I couldn’t be happier. The rifle still shoots like a laser beam these few years later. Shame to hear not everyone’s experience has been like mine 👍

I had my hw100 full tune by him when he was working out of his parents bungalow it's still spot on and it did leak a few years back dropped Phil a message went to his new premises left it with him fixed it under there warranty. But it developed a slow leak contacted Phil ask me to try a few things still leaked sent a courier to collect it and returned it by the same method all under his warranty these things happen that's life.

Well, Im now close to getting mine back, scheduled to be finished late this week, getting a tad excited at getting it back and shooting it again

Had the full service , reg and quick fill! You won’t be disappointed! They do a fantastic job, very happy happy here 👍

Seven weeks on Monday since I dropped two in for work on them,E-mailed them yesterday for an update, and told work has started but not yet completed, even though I was told a five to six week maximum for completion.

Mines been with them since 26th Feb, rather wait and them get it right , shouldn’t be much longer now but patience is a virtue they say, got others i can shoot in the meantime

Just looking for opinions on this situation.
So as above I emailed them to ask for a completion time.
I then received this email last Wednesday 1st April

HI Andy, Your Air Arms is stripped and modified, just waiting on being put back together. What was the other air rifle you had with us?

Just got in and checked emails and this has been sent to me by them.

We need to make you aware of some notes we have made when stripping your rifle:

Trasfer port has been drilled out to 4.2mm, we would only go to 3.5mm maximum. The regulator is wedged solid at an angle in the cylinder, cylinder wall has bulged due to excessive force being used to ram the regulator down the cylinder bore. Valve body is wedged against the regulator due to fill pressure crushing the plemun standoff spacer. Cylinder-Regulator-Firing Valve cannot be seaprated and need to be replaced. Gauge banjo bolt has been butchered.

We will need to provide the following to rectify the situation:

To get up and running the rifle will require: Cylinder, Regulator, Plenum Standoff, Firing Valve Body, Firing Valve Pin, Barrel inlet/thimble. The rifle has clearly been rebuilt without the correct knowledge of a regulated Air Arms. Please call us for a chat about the damage found and options on where to go from here.

Is it me being thick or is this second email totally contradictory to the first, surely if it was already stripped and modded in the first email they sent these issues would have been discovered then and then notified to me.

Are they perhaps referring to the second air rifle you sent in? If they are indeed referring to the first one where they say it’s been stripped and modified and ready to be put back together then I have no idea, unless they are trying to email someone else and got the wrong address perhaps but I would definitely clarify it

No it definitely says S400 in the email above, the second one is a HW 100.

Had my HW110 serviced by them. Very impressed with the service. I am only a 15 minute drive away from them so dropped off and picked up in person. I obviously cannot comment as to whether this aspect improved the experience with me living so near. I’ve had bad service with other things in life whereas others report a different experience so horses for courses.

One thing I would say is perhaps given that they have FAC stuff on site might be why they don’t want to attract too much attention to their unit, so I’m not sure that posting detailed pics of their front door in the opening post is a good idea. Maybe that’s because I well remember what happened to Alan Bray not too far away from Rat Works

Well I read thru this whole thread today, gave me self a proper headache,as now I don't know what to do.My hw 100 has got a slow leak that I would like sorting, put a balloon over the barrel end it's not coming from there, and that's as far as I want to go with it,don't really like the idea of posting it out either, any recommendations of people in Birmingham for me to contact who may be able to help me out? It is a ratworks tuned gun and has their cylinder
