Recently bought a second hand s200 which is in rough shape wondering if to reblue to paint with some good quality stuff, I don't see why painting seems to be looked down upon on guns as much as it is, it protects from rust much better and if good quality then won't peel off

The issue with painting is if you strip the gun and fully paint any tight tolerance components wont fit back together, especially block barrel and scope mount in the case of the s200

some airgun's were painted for quickness and cost reasons as it would cover a lot of imperfections that may take time to polish out for bluing and also safer as there would be no nasty chemicals that once it starts burning your skin , it can leave you with nasty results.

BSA black stove enameled a lot of their cheaper airguns years ago.

Bluing by prefernce. I don't have a problem with paint if it's well done.
I think it's frowned on if it causes issues with fitting/tolerances.
I have crosmans that would've been better off painted than the factory finish tbh

BSA Mercury's & Meteor's were painted in the 70's / early 80's which was viewed as a cheap, inferior finish to bluing but, my experience of them was it was a pretty decent finish and way more resistant to rust than bluing so, if you just want to use your S200 as a working gun, I'd say go for it.

That's something I didn't think about, might paint the cylinder and blue the barrel

Chemical blueing without heat works well on ferrous materials, if an aluminium alloy a special paint I believe is the only option.

Easiest way is to carbon fibre wrap the cylinder and carbon fibre tube on the barrel,

Have you considered Cerakote, had an old bsa international mk2 done a couple of years ago.

rattle can paint would the cheapest
But what Shadowryder has done would make the most sense hide the ugly with carbon tubing
and with the barrel band you can 2 piece it
i for one would like to see what you are working with
the breech i would assume is aluminum and the air tank steel as is the barrel

You could try and get it anodised it cost me around £130/£140 all in. Assuming it's just the shroud etc. I wouldn't mess around with a barrel or bottle with anodising personally

Cerakote, it’s a few hundred quid for a complete rifle, but superb finish

I've not had a S200 for 15 years or more, but as I recal the cylinders were a matt painted finish anyway. I'd definitely paint on S200. It's not a good looking gun; it's a tool and very good it is too.
I'm leaning towards this or as mentioned shink wrap, for the price I've paid for it it's not worth getting cerakoted

Throw a spanner in the mix and nickle plate it at home 🤔🫣
