Older Reels…. Still in use

I still use these all the time.

To me they are too good to replace.

Anybody else use older gear.

Hello, Having trawled Temu for a Fixed Spool Spinning reel i found a old Woolies Spin Fisher 77 in vgc on the Oxford market for a fiver, My first Intrepid Monarch cost 19 shillings , old money, Oh happy days, I still have an Avon Supreme reel made in Weymouth, I have a Cane Avon rod

I use an old alvey side cast reel for fishing off the beach. Its pretty limited for distance casting but its still nice to use the old gear from time to time.

The oldest that I've got are;

Mitchell 300
Mitchell 440a Match
2x Abu 506

Still very capable.

Got a couple of older Mitchell's, a few Intrepids and my Dad's Alvey side cast.

I have a few vintage Abu multipliers, the are a joy in use, and as ornaments, will try to pop some pics up tomorrow.

Somewhere I have a South Bend 1122 centrepin, bought in 1972, a Mitchell 300, bought secondhand in 1971, an ABU Cardinal 40, bought for christmas 1972 and an Alvey sidecast, given to me by an uncle around 1969/70, he claims to have brought it back from one of his trips abroad in 1965.

I still use old Pfluger fly reels made in the 50s and 60s. The ones I grew up with. I have grand paws old reel I learned to fly fish with. It still works good. They have the metal clicker plates.

Here are some of mine, most I have used, couple of them too good to, one of the 5000c reals has Fred J Taylor engraved, I have a feeling it was gifted to him which makes it a bit special methinks, it was well used, and full of Tweedy fluff!

Still have an Abu 506, cracking little reel use it for trotting when finishing the river Don in Sheffield.
