Occupation?

35+ years in aerospace working with carbon fiber. Prepreging it, QC and QA ING it. Making rocket fairings for the delta rocket line as in delta 2,3, and 4. Worked on a NASA carbon fiber commercial wing program at Boeing. Made parts for airliners, military jets, and helicopters. Did static testing of composite test coupons, along with non destructive testing. My last job was working for Virgin galactic qualifying the material they were using in their rocket plane to put civilians in to near orbit. Retired at 62 and I'm working way harder now than for most of my career physically.

I played that game years ago, if I can offer any useless advice feel free to ask
Thanks mate. It's a long process.. I split over 3 years ago and I am still waiting for the Pension society to sort my maths out. I'm stuck paying for a house I don't live in until its sorted :D Ahh well, one thing is I've upgraded on the female department, younger, thinner and hotter. Always look on the brightside.

First thing I did with the mortgage was to switch it down to interest only, no point paying in more equity if the ex will probably get it anyway. Don't forget, she would only be entitled to a share of your pension for years married during your 26 years, chances are the equity may be more. Also, if she pushes for too much make sure you go after her pensions too.

I didn't mind the long game, my ex had a solicitor in tow, costing her money, while i sat on my hands. I drew up a reasonable split that didn't touch my pension, I put that on the table and waited until she was desperate to sell the house so she could move to be with her new mug.

20 years + as an auto electrician and air conditioning specialist. Currently own my own garage which has been open since 1926 !!

Decided in my late teens that I just didn’t want to obey the family pressure and be a doctor (lawyer, architect or accountant would have been ok) I wanted to design engines for motorbikes! I should have realised that, by the time I finished my HND [wrong ALevels for an engineering degree] the last British motorbike engine for many years was done… But I worked for the car guys, the go faster guys, the big American and uk guys, the big consultants, here, in Germany, you name it, I lived in Germany, I worked with the Japanese (easy to work with, straightforward) the Koreans, the Chinese (progressively more difficult) and the Indians. Ended up self employed, chasing a new technology idea which, for sad reasons, ran out of money before getting the traction it deserved…. Loved it all, went from stress analyst to chief engineer, still taking expert witness work at 73 and would go back to full time like a shot…

Started as an apprentice in 1983 for BNFL Sponsored to go full time to Uni and became chartered mech eng. Looking forward to retirement. Worked in the Design Office for the majority of that time. Like solving problems, dislike politics, won't miss the stress.
