Merge

Don't let it go as the more people that have them the more difficult it will be for the lefties to ban them.
I have just had mine back, it wasn't a complete ball ache, a doctors cert, two referee's (whom they didn't even contact) and a renewal form (oh and the obvious payment) Applied early October and received it a few weeks ago (I am Thames Valley)
Definitely worth doing bud.
Exactly. No-one should be giving up, it's just a bit of paperwork required every 5 years, it's easily managed by anyone who doesn't live under a rock.
The issue is that the change is illogical, not based on evidence and largely pointless so like any other legislation based on emotions not facts it should be aggressively rejected.

The lead ban deadline is also years away, given the backtrack on the subject by the EU and that 3 years is a long time in politics I very much doubt this is the end of that particular issue either.

I'm giving mine up my SGC cert at my next renewal . Not because of the proposed merger . I rarely used my shotgun since I got it in 2012 and traded it for an Airgun in 2022 , I was then gifted a .410 in 2022 which I kept for a month and sold it .

I should have traded the shotgun in earlier and never renewed my SGC cert.

Really, it's 2yrs for Smallbore clubs to reclaim their shot lead and prevent leaching of lead into water courses.
All this to be done in in that time frame and no guidelines on what needs to be done to comply with this ruling.
And what's the EU have to do with it, the UK has banned the use of lead in this country

Because shifts in legislative changes influences cross-border, especially when it's all based on the same plan and a large shift in political direction may be coming soon. It's entirely possible a future government may want to distance itself from any unessential new regulations that have their seed across the channel.

Do you really think the lead ban in the UK will change just because we may have a change of government in 2029
That will be a bit late for outdoor shooting clubs as we have to comply, unless they extend it, by 2028 and I doubt very much that will happen. This is for 'all target shooting'. The NRA already reclaim their shot at Bisley, but no one knows what the leaching into water courses applies regarding lead, and no one else does it seems
If you think the lead ban in the UK is for environmental reasons I think you may be surprised to find a lot of people doubt very much it's for that reason at all

Not keen on this part at all never mind not happy with any of it really ----This ban applies from 1 April 2029, the end of the 3-year transition period. This does not apply to elite (Olympic level) athletes. One rule for one and another for the rest ?

That's not really what I said though is it.
It might allow renewed challenges via the various shooting organisations if they believe they have a shot at changing policy by lobbying etc at a less hostile government. If they think it's worth it they will, especially if shooters are supportive of a consistent and strong rejection.

If you're implying I believe the country will solve all it's shooting related issues overnight just because the current gov jogs on, do me a favour. We don't all think in absolute black and whites.

@ColinD So you think any opportunity to re-attack policy makers on the lead ban is sonething to be laughed at rather than exploited wherever possible?
No wonder this sports ****ing dying on its knees. Wets and defeatists rule.

To be honest all I could do was laugh at your post, mostly due to this
