Marksman pellets

Hha brought back memories of when the fairground came to our town in the 50`s. The shooting stalls had old Haenels which had a brass cup braised to the end of the barrel in order to shoot corks at boxes of Liquorice allsorts. The shop across the road from the park was an old cycle shop, but they sold boxes of 200 177 marksman pellets for 3d a box. My bro and I would buy a box and put the pellets in our pockets then buy the corks from the fairground stall. Surprising what a 177 pellet in a clapped out air rifle will do! I often wondered what the stall holder thought handing over boxes of allsorts with a small hole in the box?

Marksmans are still made in Brum by family of the great man, George Lincoln Jeffries that invented the original Bsa airgun, as important a man to airgunnery as the Wright brothers were to aviation or George Brough was to motorcycling, these classic, British made pellets are part of our heritage. I only allow these or contemporary Pylarms into my Bsa 1st pattern,

I made the mistake of bulk buying .25 marksman pellets, they are rubbish compared to H&N pellets.

As previously mentioned, probably better in a catty.........once melted down & recast as balls

.

I've not tried the .177 version in my Webleys, as I've tended to stick to the Econ II's for that calibre.
I use econs also, good pellet and price,to be honest most pellets seem ok unless they are loose in the bore.

Bear in mind that Marksman pellets are made on the original pre-war ( possibly pre WW1) machinery.

I bought two (Cardboard) boxes, One .177" and tuther in .22" from a local shop here in Sheffield, When I opened them they were completely useless as they were were covered with oxide 😕

I also found that Marksman .25" are the only pellets I can get in to the barrel of my BSA Supersport, All of the others I tried were so tight my thumb was hurting like crazy, It was the front of the pellets that were tight though and not the skirts so I couldn't use a sizer!!

I also found a small (100) cardboard box for .177" but was empty, I think it actually came with a trasitional Webley Premier that I swapped my Tempest for!

John..

That oxidation ( lead carbonate) is a natural dry lubricant & also used as a grease additive. Nothing ruined there at all. Shoot ' em, boss 👍🙂
