Long time away….cheap springer question

Pretty and capable

I have owned a couple of 900x's . with a quick strip and lube they are actually quite a decent rifle. The .177 was a bit furious on the firing cycle , but the .22 was smooth and quiet. Just getting your had around that cheap plastic abomination on the end of the barrel though.

My Lad and me Bought a couple of 900xs in .177 about 4 years ago. Both been fine even the triggers out the box were acceptable, and both just over 11ftlbs with rws hobbys. The Lad left his standard, but last summer i attacked the plastic lump on the front it came off easy and the big washer on mine was not tacked on the barrel just a odd thread and the frontdrop down i simply screwed the hw30 muzle finnisher/ weight straight on it centered perfect but shouldered up about 4mm short , being a bodge merchant i slipped two o rings on the barrel up to the step and screwed the weight back on tight with some Locktite 638 , its on now i even chucked it up through the headstock on my little myford and dialed it and its perfect.
Its acctualy better balanced now more carbine feeling and accuracy as not suffered in anyway i like it much more ok i lost the sights but run a scope on it anyway.

Morning all!
Due to the fact I don’t own an air charge bottle yet so could only use the rotex at the range.
I exchanged my rotex for a 1987 hw77 in a .22.
Very happy!
Just need to file the rear sight slightly on the dovetails to get it further forwards so I can use the opens.
Appreciate all your help.

Yes,according to weihrauch it’s an 87 model.
Next year when money is better it’ll be sent to nick simmons for an internal refresh and glide, but for now… she’s golden!

Just about as good as it gets, great choice! 👍🏻

If you pardon the pun , they are pretty much bullet proof. Easy to maintain , in fact that can be their downfall sometimes. Some of the (improvements) internally that DIY enthusiasts attempt on the internals are laughable. This one looks very tidy

Yeah it’s lovely, and to be honest does fire absolutely fine.
But,as it’s my one and only(for now) I’d rather get it looked over properly by someone that knows these well.
I’m not interested in taking to bits.
I quite fancy having an adjustable riser cut into the stock but I don’t want to ruin the lines !

I did think that, but it seems unlikely to score a 99 for £200 unless someone is skint or it’s in rough shape 😂
I sold a nice one on here fairly recently for £150. It seems to be the going price secondhand.

Have a look at the SMK XS20.
It's virtually an HW99 clone.
HW95 clone but can be very good. Trigger usually needs a tweek similar to the remmy express.

I like the XS19 but they need a trigger mod and ideally a fettle.

Best literally out of the box springer I've come across was a club member's synthetic stock remmy express in .22. That particular one was wonderful.

Thanks all.
I did buy the hw77,it’s going to the range with me this week.
Fitted a cheap hawke scope.
I’ve spoken to nick Simmons and he’s doing me a full glide and tune next year to get the best from it.
I’ve still got the hankering for a 99s in a .22 though,so depending on how the range trip goes this one might be for sale to buy a 99 as it’s to be carried around a farm and it’s a heavy girl!
