What a pity we have a national ban on carrying a lock knife in public. So many really nice lock knives are probably sitting in drawers at home never to see the light of day again. A lock knife is a safe tool the lock prevents the blade coming back on your fingers and cutting them.
Why is it you can still buy lock knives if you can’t carry them from A to B in your pocket. The law is a farce. Might as well ban all kitchen knives too then.
What a stupid ruling this was, absolutely pointless.

On one hand, it’s a total farce. A lock is a safety feature, not a "weapon" feature—it's literally there to protect your fingers. It’s frustrating that high-quality, safe tools are restricted to home use only. On the other hand, I suppose authorities want a "blanket rule" to make policing easier on the streets, avoiding any grey areas. But does this actually improve safety, or does it just penalize law-abiding enthusiasts while criminals ignore the rules anyway?

The machete seems to be the blade of choice for most gangs. I’ve nearly pinched my finger off under the sharp side of a non locking blade before so if I’m ever out where a job may need a locking blade i carry one regardless and take the risk,

As mentioned a crim won’t be worried about the law if they are carrying with the intention of lacerating someone’s liver at some point

Governments just keep banning everything but it never ever stops crime just hurts genuine people more. Banning things doesn’t change much at all.
Won’t be much left that we can do soon at this rate.
Dogs ban knives ban pistol ban sword ban … what next

You can carry a lock knife or fixed blade and locking - BUT you must have good reason to have it with you at the time ! Anything else and its a sub 3" folding knife with no lock . Be warned that even a legal none locking knife sub 3" folder is illegal to carry in some places like courts , schools , Courts etc etc . have different rules where no knives at all are the requirement .
Unfortunately Knives have lots of rules now and it tails right back to illegal drugs and the street gangs that peddle that junk .

BTW the ban includes kitchen knives , look in the supermarkets shelves - I haven't seen any selling kitchen knives !!!!!!!

It’s not illegal to carry one as such, my understanding is you need a good reason to carry one, I.e. as a tool for work as such, I used to have one in my shoulder bag for when I ride my motorbikes, it was a victorinox soldiers knife, it had other tools on it, just in case I had a puncture or breakdown, bought from Amazon, I can understand not being able to carry one on your person just for the sake of it though, if you believe you have a good reason to carry one on your person then do so, just make sure it’s a good enough reason.

Afraid it goes deeper than that, kids are carrying them more and more, using them on each other, gone are the days you’d sort your differences out with your fists in the school yard, now it’s a stab to the stomach and some poor child’s dead and just another sad statistic. Just need to see in recent years how bad it’s become,

Tbf I delivered to a police station and the guy said do you have anything to open the pallet up I pulled out a locker didn’t bat an eyelid so hopefully there’s some common sense involved as you say they have to have a blanket to make prosecution easier trouble is you will get that one jobs worth

Unfortunately it is the few who spoil it for the many 😪

If it were legal to carry them, then more fights would end up as stabbings, that is the simple reason behind it.

Having a good reason to carry it is allowed, such as work purposes or camping, but if out in public they should usually be in a toolbox or stored away.

I have a few lock knives I keep in toolboxes at work and home but would never carry them out and about.
All though once after opening packaging at work in the motor trade I fitted the parts, road tested it to add fuel aswell, standing in the queue behind six coppers who had all refuelled their patrol cars, I reached in my pocket for the fuel card, to realise my lock knife was still in there not in my toolbox 😮😮🙄😂😂 that queue felt like an eternity 😂

This is true. The large Morrisons here still sold individual knives up until a few weeks ago. They're all gone now.

I think if your middle-aged carrying one it’d be acceptable but if you a teen and have one on your person it’d be questions asked. Which is correct.

I do get that , last year i had to stop the truck a while to compose myself when i got the news of a 6 year i old selling drugs on the street by a rival gang who wanted / claimed that spot
AGAIN its not the knife and we will always have knives in a home and even if we cut every food we needed was sold pre-cut , the bad people would just do as the inmates of prisons do and fashion a stabbing weapon .
Its all about taking the scum off to prison / chain gang etc etc . Man made knives and pointy / stabby things from the start of history.
Knife crime has been a thing for many hundreds no thousands plus - the key enforcement should be drugs, gangs and dealers . Criminals ( also called out laws) clue is in the name , more legislation threats are utterly useless

That’s the problem with our government - They spend far too long patting themselves on the back pretending to do something without actually doing anything to solve problems.

If you want to prevent knife crime you have to bring the people doing knife crime to justice rather banning inanimate objects. This could be done by increasing coppers on the beat and Stop and search based on statistics rather than trying not to offend certain demographics.

Me personally, carrying a lightweight lock knife with a 3-3.5 inch blade is ideal. But Im always aware that if I accidentally carry such a knife outside of a situation deemed as “a good reason” then it could be up to me to prove in the courts that I have no intention of harming someone with it. That’s why the majority of the time I’ll simply opt for a good quality, sub 3” slip joint instead.

I now shorten my folders to 3" when its possible

I don't see why we can't carry a sub 3inch locking pocket knife.
Because of the stabbing , slashing facility is added . This is for every day carry , with good reason at the time for specific uses at the time you can have a lock but you might end up in court depending where you where at the time and why you needed it . big trouble if your mitigation is not up-held though
3" none locking is fine for the vast amount of jobs
