Let’s See Your Rough Ryders

Good for you fella and I’ll look forward to the pictures,it’s a slippery slope though, one is never enough 😊
I know all about slippery slopes, I reckon I have in excess of 90 odd knives including 20 Spyderco’s.
I’ve got one mate not bad too
I’m hoping to see some good fit and finish and a solid feel. It should fit nicely into my collection.

Well the Rough Ryder arrived in typical HH fashion, ordered yesterday afternoon, arrived today just after lunch, fantastic and legendary turn round of orders.

Nice packaging, especially when you consider that higher priced pieces, although they come in a box (Spyderco), the box is fitted to the knife with a nice sponge kind of protection.

The "Stag" scales I don't think are Stag, it states on the bottom of the box "This series features genuine Cinnamon 'Bone' Stag handles", this distinction doesn't matter at this price point, I would have expected the knife to cost more if they used genuine Stag. The scales do look very nice all the same.
Rough Ryder 3.JPGRough Ryder 5.JPGRough Ryder 6.JPG
The knife is a two blade design made from a Damascus stainless steel, no mention of which steels. The blades are both very sharp and have quite strong backsprings very reminiscent of some Boker folders where it needs a firm pull using the nail knick to open, both open with a solid half and fully open stop. When closing past the half stop both blade snap shut.Rough Ryder 7.JPG
Here is some close up detail of the Damascus pattern on the blades. Main blade first.

And small blade.

I did have to give the pivot area a bit of a clean because it was a little dirty with manufacturing residue making opening and closing a bit gritty. I am quite impressed with the fit and finish especially for a knife at this price point.

Super knife, great photos and a very informative review 👏👏
The scales will be machine or maybe laser jigged cow bone, flamed to give that cinnamon colour and stag like appearance/texture,I’ve got a couple of them and each one is unique but all are very cool.
I bet you’re already looking at what you might order next 🤔😉😊

I was certainly taken a back with the knife I recieved. I might have a look at some of the other knives in the lineup.
Looks like you have some nice examples in your collection. If it was genuine Stag Antler for the scales they'd probably near double in price.

I’ve never seen or handled a guenuine stag RR,I did find a YouTube video of a guenuine stag trapper from 2008,looked very nice.
I’d happily pay up for one if they became available again.
Several variations of faux stag though -cinnamon bone stag -tuff stag - brown stag bone - to choose from 👍

As Im looking at adding a sodbuster model to my collection I would appreciate your thoughts and views regarding Rough Ryder or Marbles sodbuster / work style folders or indeed any of the other cheaper makes , I do prefer either bone or wood handle scales . Im at present looking at the liner locks , once again any views appreciated . Thanks .

Especially the RR 304 Red jigged bone sodbuster liner lock or the similar Coal Miner liner lock ?

Was looking for a larger folder for a bit of garden work so settled on the Celestial large hunter.

For the money (18.99 Heinnie haynes) it's a great folder. Wanted to see what a Rough Ryder knife was like. Very happy and won't be my last.

Great knife, fun fact … it glows in the dark as well 😊

This is my first Rough Ryder Reserve pocketknife,I am not dissapointed.
RRR026CB Roundup in brown stag bone,it’s a 3 blade sowbelly pattern.
Integral steel bolsters and liners, steel backsprings with a brass center spacer, nickel shield and pins and the nicest jigged brown ‘stag’ bone scales I’ve seen on any knife, one large clip blade plus a smaller pen and a Spey blade in beautifully as ground D2 steel, delivered with plenty of packing oil which is visible on the photos.
Fit and finish is superb,a step up from the regular RR line up,consistent pulls on all three blades at around six and a half, solid half stops, the blades are absolutely

IMG_8309.webpIMG_8314.webpIMG_8313.webpIMG_8312.webpIMG_8311.webpflush with the backsprings at closed and open positions,at half stop there is a very slight lift of the spring on all three blades (nothing that isn’t perfectly acceptable though). The pins and shields are as smooth as butter in the scales and the transitions between scales and bolsters is indistinguishable. Also the bomb shield on this knife is an absolute corker.
Overall it’s a superb pocketknife and at £39.95 a bargain too.

Now that is nice Neale and with a D2 steel blades you cannot be robbed at that price !
Reminds me slightly of my large RR Stockman with stag bone scales and of course with the very nice brown leather slip made for me by Bladesmith ( John ) .

Your right Mike, the scales look to me just like the Cinnamon Bonestag series although they call them Brown Stag Bone on this RRR,I have 4 other Cinnamon knives and in comparison the RRR has the nicest scales of them all though,so maybe they hand select the nicest scales for the Reserve knives 🤔

Hi Neale , I often go back over older posts just to get a better view and understanding of the various knives and so it is with the RRR 026CB brown stag above . I already own the standard RR brown stag sowbelly trapper with the clip and spey blades which in my opinion is a great shaped solid little work knife with great aesthetics . Obviously the RRR three blade version with D2 steel blades is a higher spec jump up and well worth the £ 39.99 price tag at HH .With the brass liners and quality jigged stag bone scales you are still getting that traditional look and feel and after watching youtube videos I was sorely tempted to get this version but I just cannot warrant it as it is so similar to my RR sowbelly trapper ( pity ) however there is also a brown micarta version which also looks classy with the brass liners although a lot pricier at £ 87 . What I originally intended to say was Neale those three blades on yours look like real practical solid working blades .

It was an easy knife to buy at £39.95 and is a cracking pocketknife,John @Bladesmith picked one up as well and is very happy with his 👍

Very happy with this one for garden work. Just under 4" blade, fnf excellent, brass liners, the blue Jean micarta is done very well and I've no problem with their basic 440 steel - HT must be decent as it sharpens up very well and holds a decent edge.

Imo a lovely looking folder for £23.

What a stunning knife John 👏👌
I really like the contrasting red liners, the black smooth bone is a very classy handle material and the razor bearhead trapper pattern is really interesting ,these RR Reseve knives are really super quality,it still amazes me how they manage to produce them at the price.
