I would say yes, if safe back stop etc and no so caused nuisance or distress...or so the powers that be say.

It is also against the law to discharge any firearm (including air rifles) within 50 feet of the centre of a highway (which consists of or comprises a carriageway) IF in consequence a user of the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered. These offences could be committed, for example, when a person is shooting in their garden close to a public highway and a pellet ricochets onto the highway and injures someone.

The legal position is that you should not cause alarm or didtress etc to anyone so it only needs one visitor to the road to complain and there will be problems. Obviously there will be delivery drivers, dustman, the vicar etc and anyone could be anti or concerned. It's not something I would want to do and I am always happy to stand up for my rights.

All it would take is someone delivering to or visiting a neighbour to feel they’re at risk to put a complaint in to the Police.

The law about 50 feet (from the center of a public road) is correct BUT in my view if you were 51 feet or 151 feet from a road and you injured, interrupted or endangered someone I would doubt there would be any difference. Someone suggested it is a law left over from when horses were a more common mode of transport and that makes some sense. But I agree with terry1001 and it's very hard to separate someone being endangered and just feeling they were...

As long as you keep within the law I can’t see why not . You see plenty riding moter bikes up the roads with out helmets on testing them in some places
Long as you are 17 yards away from the centre of road or path way . That’s the point from pulling the trigger ( discharge)

legal......possibly, a good idea........probably not for reasons stated above , it only takes a phone call to the police, .....hello , theres a man shooting a gun in the street, is it worth an armed response visit ??

In my view, if you discharge an air rifle on your driveway at the front of your house, in full view of any passer by, you are simply asking for trouble. Legal or not.
there's a fellow on the u-tube shoots from his front room into his back garden, how would he stand if the road was 10mtre from the street

One single phone call and you either have the friendly local copper pop round for a chat and some advice OR you have armed police showing up heavy handed and your guns seized to be tested.

40 years ago, absolutely no problem with passers by asking how you’re getting on. Now, an entire SWAT team costing thousands of pounds of tax payer’s money would be despatched because someone called the police and reported a maniac shooting things in his garage near where children play.

It will be a full on armed response unit, then a whole lot of pain. You’ll be laying on the ground hand cuffed in no time at all.

There's no point in getting an opinion from your local FEO, he won't be involved in any possible police response to a report of a gun being used in the street, there are some things not worth the effort.
