I'm back again, after a break, in a minor moderating role in the hunting section. The section's been well looked after by the team, but I'm glad to be back, in the role.

For any newcomers to the section, I just wanted to give a little helpful advice
The Hunting section on here, is publicly viewable, meaning anyone can see what is posted.

1) Please read the forum rules and the hunting section rules.
The forum has it's own standards, that need to be met by posters, so please understand these requirements before posting. Failure to meet the forum standards and rules, may result in posts being removed.

2) Shooting wild birds - All wild birds, in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside act. The General licences offer your only exceptions in law, to shoot these wild birds. Each of these Countries / regions, also have their own specific General Licences.
When you post about shooting wild birds, make sure to quote the GL that you are shooting under, for your particular region. This will show you understand the legal situation and will prevent questions from other shooters or mods
Links to all the GL's are in the stickies at the top of the section. Please ensure you read and understand the GL's fully, as there are additional conditions, within each GL that have to be met, legally. Before shooting, you should appraise yourself of what non lethal methods have been tried, and why they have not / would not be / been successful, before commencing shooting. You as the shooter, bear full responsibility for your actions, in terms of the law.
Please also remember that the GL's can change, so frequent checking of the GL's, to make sure you can still shoot legally, is advisable.

Specifically for GL40. This GL must be used in conjunction with the list of birds of conservation concern.
If the birds you are wanting to protect, are not on that list, you have no authority under GL40

3) Think about what you're writing and whether you should write it at all.
Posting about having trouble getting clean kills, is not really what anyone wants to see on here. Posts like that, just feed the anti hunt fraternity and look like a shooter is not giving their quarry, the consideration that they are obliged to give, in law.
We want to promote lawful pest control.
Factors that affect clean kills are many, but understanding things like the anatomy of your quarry, technical issues with your setup, external factors like wind / elevated shots, can all be explored fully, outside of this section, so we'd rather not see (or make it available for the public to see), basic shooting errors inflicted on live quarry.
The membership is helpful, so a DM to another member, for help, will usually bear fruit.

The section is very popular, with old and new members, so keep the posts coming.

Happy hunting
Rob
