Insurance

Easy to say if you've GOT "a hundred quid a year" to spare. The thing with insurance, any kind of insurance, is that the worst might not happen, but that premium is coming out anyway.
Point is though ... if the worst does happen.

£100 a year ... 20 pints or what 4 or 5 evenings in the pub

I had an old schoolmate who did not get his house insured and had a flood . He lost pretty much everything for the sake of a £100 quid or so . He could have spent less on his dope or drink or sold a few things he had but did not need but he said "Its cool I wont need the insurance as I have paid it for years before and never had to claim" .

Similar thing to a friend who lives in Dorset whose house got flooded when the Stour went over ... initially the insurers refused to pay out, stating that the property was built on a flood plain, so she should contact the builders for compensation. She asked if they employed clairvoyants ... because the cottage was built in the 1640s ! They finally paid out, but refused renewal until the government stepped in because a lot of the country had been underwater. 3 months after that, the river went over its banks again and did her a second time and the insurance covered it again 😂
