I have just been notified about a post but when I look at it I find it includes a quotation attributed to me (Woodcrafts) but looking back it is actually a quote of a post by @Bardot
This is a link to the 'problem' post https://airgunforums.co.uk/threads/bench-rest-bipod-recommends.191996/post-3088384
and this is a link to the original post that has been quoted.

This hasn't caused me any problems but I am worried that I can be 'quoted' when I've not actually posted a message. Is this a software glitch or some strange happening with quotes?
@Ganton Gunner I have tagged you Peter as I think you are the 'software expert'.
Hope that all makes sense.

Some one may have been going to quote you and removed your content but added their own by accident .

Sometimes people will mess up a quote and it looks like some one else posted it .

Hi @Bighit, I didn't know you could edit the quote but I am still intrigued as I hadn't posted any comment on that posting, nor am I aware of any link between myself and Bardot, where the quoted text came from. I am surprised the system allows this.

You can edit the quote easily as I have just done .
As I shown above it can be done . If you were to hit the arrow next to your name where i edited it you will see your own quote.
Often you will see things the OP has not said and the person quoting it has entered it in the quote by accident.

Hi @Bighit, Thanks for your replies. However there is one mystery. I was aware that the arrow next to my name should take me back to 'my post' that had been quoted, but in the thread where this arose that is NOT the case. I had not posted on the thread at all. That arrow takes me to a completely different thread, started by Ganton Gunner about the 1st AGF tour. So I am intrigued how two threads can be associated.

Some one has somehow managed to mess up a quote from you and added it to anther thread . I’m not sure how it happens but it has happened before.

Edit.

They must have hit multi quote which saved it and then posted on another thread.

1. Multi-Quote Feature (Most Likely)
XenForo allows users to select posts across different threads and threads to be quoted together in a single reply. [1, 2]
  • How it works: A user clicks the "+Quote" button on your post (turning it into a "-Quote" or checked state).
  • The Action: The user then navigates to a completely different thread, clicks "Insert Quotes" in the reply editor, and your post appears in that new thread, separated from its original context.
  • Misquote Potential: If they quote only a small, out-of-context part of your post, it can misrepresent your original message
