Any help appreciated.

It's a Union Mfg Co 4" 4 jaw chuck. American, propably from the 60/70s and a bit battered. There are 4 deep mounting holes on the back for attaching to a mounting plate. The threads are not in great nick but should be serviceable.
Internal dia 0·262" / 6.6mm average
I make it 21·7 threads per inch (!) not easy to measure.

A friend's Whit and UNF tap set wouldn't go in, but then taps are quite particular. Can't find a bolt to fit. Worst case drill and tap some more holes. Not easy without a dividing head or such. At a loss with this one but I can always internally grip its 1" bore with the 3-jaw...

Described as a 'die cutter' and therefore bought cheaply from the site recently. At that price I'm happy to have it just for that use case.

Intention is to make a 3½" external dia adaptor plate to fit onto the 32mm lathe spindle, and the indexing ring at the perimeter on the back of the chuck. An interesting job for an 80mm 3-jaw which doesn't open quite that far. So buy a 4" dia piece of ally stock, file three 8-9mm deep chords into one end for the chuck to grip and start from there. Could then bolt it onto the spindle for concentric faces and final diameter cut. Ally should be good enough for that job I think, and easier to file. The Hobbymat lathe should just about be able to make up the plate.

Sounds like 5/16 - 24
Union are good chucks
I have a similar one in my shop. Hit me back if you need more help

If you think the threads are imperial sizes,
Try whit, bsf, unf or unc.
Whit and unc are the course thread, the other two are fine threads 🤷
