HW99 .177 and titan 10

I've just put a titan 10 in to my HW99 that I use for HFT. I had recently put a meteor mk 1-5 spring in it but did not like the snappy action it gave.
I think it is now the best I have ever had it - very light cocking and a nice light thud on firing - quick but not snappy, no noticable torque and very moderate recoil - a pellet on the scope turret barely moves.

The spring went in uncut and with a new properly fitting guide and top hat and a .25mm PTFE piston liner.


Power is a tad over 10 fpe with FAPs and I expect it to creep up a small amount. That's fine by me.

I'll shoot it some over the winter but I think it's ready for the next seasons comps

Is that a factory guide , my friend ?
I've Titan 10 & 10+ in a couple 99s ,on @ Deleted member's guides. Very nice to shoot.

It's one of mine - I make my own guides and other airgun related bits and bobs on a small lathe.
Weird as it sound the white POM machines a little better than the black stuff. I've up until recently only used black but it's white from now on!

Titan 10 with proper guides works well 99 but I would caution regarding such a thin ptfe liner getting deformed into cocking slot.
At thickness of 0.25 mm, steel may prove a more lasting option.

Titan state the No 9 for the 99 and 57 which is wrong ,I put a TBT kit with a No 10 in my 57,smooth as silk at 11.4 ft lbs, the No 9 is way too strong.

If it does deform I'll replace it with pop bottle plastic which I have used before and had last well over 5000 shots. Logic for me is I'm trying to avoid metal to metal contact and using metal won't do that...

ptfe liners in the 99s usually dont last long.they get torn up by the cocking foot.
a steel liner is the way to go in a 99. ptfe liners are ok in the 77/97 ,as not
affected by cocking foot and dont get ripped up

I'll keep an eye on it - easy enough to replace if needs be. Previously I have had pop bottle plastic in there and that lasted thousands of shots. If I need to go to steel Azera coffee tins are a good find!

Dont forget to scrag them. I also liked the AA tx mk3 spring in my 99, currently running on a hw30 spring at 7lb for bell target.

I normally do scrag my springs but in this case didn't. The titan 10 in a 99 will not be as close to coil bound as is common when the gun is cocked and scragging it would have stressed it more than it would be when in the gun. Also one of the main advantages of scragging is it helps get a spring with a lot of preload in to the gun (shortens the spring a little) - this is not an issue with a titan 10 in a 99.

Yep! A 57 has a 10mm longer stroke than a 99 so a little more power to be had with the same spring.

As an update it's shooting beautifully after around 300 shots - settled in nicely and very smooth. No issues so far....
