HW85k part 2- the stock and the metalwork

Only a small update today as a certain HW77 has taken up my time.
The stock fits ok ish now and the shaping is coming along. I think I'll de-emphasise the grip cap a bit. The Webley logo will also disappear this week if my plan works. The stippling also needs some work.

Still a lot to do.

Let’s see that stock finished please
:LOL:Yes you're right mate. I'd like to see the whole rifle finished to be honest but the piston is away being buttoned and the action isn't off for blacking for another month. Hopefully I can get some oil on the it this week when some bits from @Woodcrafts arrive.
In the meantime, here's some soothing music-

With the stock in the white, next was to raise the grain by wetting it and drying rapidly with a heat gun set to a low output. After each wetting and drying I sanded with successively finer grits. At this point I'm following the instructions in the CCL stock finishing kit. The final grade of paper was 800.
In order to remove the Webley logo I'd decided to let in a wooden disc. The logo was 40mm at its extremes so a forstner cutter was ordered and I made another jig to keep it still.

Thank you to @Woodcrafts for turning some sycamore discs for the next bit. (y)

I fitted four of these to fit the profile of the stock as it seemed prudent to have spares for later.

That was a bit tricky but I ended up with usable discs.

Now it was time for alkanet oil which CCL calls Red Root Oil. Here I've applied four coats with 24hrs in between.

It's a bit light for my liking but I can sort that later.
A friend of mine has a laser engraving and cutting company so yesterday I went to see her to sort out the discs. This has just been glued in and a damp cloth used to removed excess. It needs a bit of dressing. I may change the colour here as well. The next stage will be to start three 24 hourly applications of the CCL oil hardener. Then I'll have a reassessment. We're getting there.
