Ive decided im getting a hw45 very soon.

But not sure what calibre to choose.

Does it perform much definitely with the smaller 177.

Im leaning towards 22 or maybe even a 20.

Thanks for any information

Having had all the barrel combos, .22 all the way in the HW45 - just like a lightweight springer rifle, the firing cycle is sweeter in the larger calibre. Also, you get a more satisfying whack on plinking targets, it’s less fiddly to load and quieter. RWS Hobbies or the Meisterkugeln 14gr for excellent results 😉

They shoot far nicer in .22 unless you're willing to sacrifice power in a .177

I've swapped barrels & springs around a few times now and would say a .22 running 5ftlb feels like a .177 running 3.5ftlb, and a .177 running anything more than 4ftlb is horrendous to shoot.

many moons ago i wouldnt touch anything other than 22 but have mellowed into really liking 177. buy one and enjoy it whatever calibre .

Thanks for the feedback very helpful, so as suspected most use 22.

What tuning kits do people use or is it ok out the box?

You can change the barrels easily on fhem, just get the gun you want and another barrel to try. You will easily sell a hw45 barrel if you decide that calibre is not for you.
Thats actually a great idea will possibly get a 20 and 22.

I have three interchangeable barrels and favour the 22. Softer to shoot.
20 cal gives you less choice of pellet.
Good luck, Phil
Good point regards pellet choice in 20 my other guns are 22 so already have a good selection of pellets.

No probs - sound is subjective, but I’d say the .22 is ‘noticeably’ quieter. Perhaps the piston in .177 is a bit slammy.
Cheers is that with the standard internals?

Yes - I’ve not shot one with the Tbt kit or any other upgrades. I did find that mounting a red dot as close to the muzzle as possible really tightened up my groups 😉

I have both .22 and .177 I feel the .22 does not seem as harsh on recoil as the .177, just my opinion, but either calibre they will be great to shoot once you get the knack of not holding it tight

A 45 is .25 caliber would sell in bucketloads I think

Ultimate 6ft lb air pistol surely

I know there are PCP's and maybe even C02 guns doing the full 6 ft/lb but a 45 in .25 would be the pick of the bunch surely

A whole generation of grown men would suddenly go back to blasting tin cans!
