Hi all,
I’m thinking of a cheap hft set up as my club do shoot them occasionally.
So I have a 10x30 scope waiting for a gun to sit on.
So would the hw30sf or kit version shoot to the 45y max distance?
I Really fancy a lightweight springer the hw99 would work but if the 30 works at 45y
I’d rather have the smaller size and lighter weight.
Also I won’t use the open sights on the sf version,so they would come straight off, the threaded barrel on the kit version does appeal, but is the shorter barrel less accurate?
I’m thinking if it’s at it max range the slightly longer barrel would be a plus?
It’s also £30 more with a scope a wont use,as I’m going for a budget set up it feels like I would be paying for stuff I won’t use…..😩😩😩😩
I use sticks(tripod)to shoot btw

Any thoughts would be appreciated
Incase I’ve missed something obvious.

Or maybe a super cheap springer option??

Cheers👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The HW30 is, without doubt, an excellent and very capable rifle. However, they usually hover around 7 - 7.5 ft lbs in .177, which may not provide enough 'ooomph' out to that range, outdoors, the main issue being wind. But, I could be wrong.

The barrel length difference between the SF and the K, in terms of efficiency and accuracy, to the best of my knowledge, is negligible at best.

I keep meaning to take my 30 out and do some testing, I'll let you know how it goes, mines a k in 177, with a 2-7x32 Wulf.
That reminds me I must chrono it as well 👍
Thank you trev, yes I will be going .177 so any input you can give will be appreciated.
Is the k version threaded ?
I have a pcp set up for FT which I’m happy with.
But a fun gun with the ability to do hft occasionally appeals big time.
It would be great for my very small garden as well.
Cheers pal
Look forward to seeing what your thoughts are👍🏻

It’s a spina optics scope,it’s been on a springer before and it was fine mate👍🏻

I've had a couple of Immersives, a SWAT MTC and now a Veyron 10x30 and they've all said recoilless only.

However, TBH I think it's more about the zero eye relief than recoil affecting the scope.

I think you are right, mine still needs about 75mm eye relief 👍🏻
It was on a hw97 for a month or two and worked fine.

Get yourself a nice, sorted HW99. It’s a little heavier than the 30 (not by much when they are both scoped) but worth it for the extra power (10.5 instead of 7) and as accurate as they come. Best lightweight rifle out there imho.

I had a used Veyron 10 x 44 on on my HW99. Was alright for a couple of months, then it wasn't! One day I was using it at the range, cocked and loaded it, put it to my eye and the reticle had moved about 15 degrees off vertical.

I put it down to one of those things, bought it second hand and didn't check if it was springer rated. I actually liked it so much I bought another one (Optics Warehouse had the on offer for the same as I paid for the used one Homer face palm ). But that one is staying on a PCP.

I have one myself but it's currently unmounted again. It's fine AFAIK but the plan was to use it for a bit of casual HFT on either one of my S400 or the Ultra. I can't do anything other than bench shoot because of a left arm issue, so don't know how well it would have worked.
Maybe in a few months I'll get to try it again if the physio gets me to where I can support with my left hand adequately again.

I have used my HW30 (.22) for HFT at a charity event. It works fine and I was shooting to 45 yards. Rather a loopy trajectory.

Probably not the gun if you take HFT very seriously. Great gun for HFT fun.
Cheers for that mate.
So in 177 it would be less loopy and probably clear the course😂

I chronod mine today with 8.44gr Barracuda 8s, it's avg 7.2ftlb, if it's not blowing a gale tomorrow I'll try it outdoors.

Hi all,
Finally got to a shop that had both version of the 30 and the 99.
To me the feel and handling are so similar that I bought the 99.

Got a great deal really happy with what I payed including a nice slip👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks everyone for your advice👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Enjoy, you won’t regret it! Both great guns, but the 99 has a cult following for a reason. A brilliant lightweight hunter.
