Hi

I've bought the above unit, which I know is cheap, so I shouldn't expect too much, but I wondered if anyone else has had/got 1 and had a problem with it reading the pellets?

I think I've entered all the info into the chrono, but when I fire the rifle ..... nothing.

Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated

Cheers Kev

I have just bought the same chronograph, I have the same issue but mine has yet to miraculously start working. Would be very grateful to anyone that has also had this issue and knows the solution.

I've now treated myself to a FX chrono, but I wondered if there was insufficient light for the chrono to 'see' the pellet 🤷‍♂️

Still not registering any shots today. Could there be anything I'm doing wrong, does it only record shots when the screen is showing a certain page, does WiFi need to be on and connected to my phone?
I've tried charging it, resetting it, entering pellet weight and size, shooting in different directions to let more/less light in and it still records nothing...

Mine was just hit and miss I'm afraid, hence why I bought a FX chrono

Just bought two, not tested on a gun yet but dropping a 6mm plastic BB registered very
close figures. I did watch a YT video where too much light was a problem.

The guy put a cloth over the sensor including the gap between the gun and sensor and
it gave figures very close to the alpha chrony he was using. Before adding the shade it
was registering over 100fps slower.

I know how hard it is to build a reliable chrony that works well on every rifle ;)

Using airsoft chrony's on air rifle can work - but you may get patchy results. The detection techniques for the projectiles are quite different - its not "same thing but faster". The hardest thing to reliably detect is small & fast pellets - 177's are really tricky, hence 6mm airsoft can give issues, the difference is huge.

Do a drop test with a large pellet/BB that is metallic, try a coin/bolt/nut that takes up most of the space inside the enclosure.
If that doesnt work - then i'd say faulty unit.

If the drop test does work - i'd say its alignment issues.
Ballpark - if the sensors are 10cm apart, 1degree of mis-alignment is 1.7mm at the second sensor - that's almost 1/2 a .177 pellet, and could definitely impact shot detection.
Looking at the internals - i'm guessing left/right alignment wont make a difference, its the vertical. Use some sheets of paper to shim the alignment & adjust it up or down in VERY small increments & see how you go.

Then there's my other recommendation... *cough*

I also have this HT-X3006 chrono and have taken some readings on my AA TX200 .177 springer. Im using a 3d printed mount and getting consistent readings of 683 to 689 fps. (The first reading was erroneous at circa 400fps).
The equates to just under 11fpe which seems a little low (but the 'good' readings are consistent)
I'll try to compare against a better quality chrono to see how reliable the X3006 is

(If I get a chance i might try test whether the sensors are affected by external light by covering the output with paper to shoot through.)

Very much doubt there's any issues with external lighting on these - the sensors are really deeply recessed inside the unit & the unit is aluminium

Thanks Nate, I discussed the readings with another forum member and have concluded they are decent enough so like you say it’s unlikely that shading the unit from external lighting is going to meaningfully change the readings (if at all)

This bit of info taken from AK2M4 Airsoft site regarding the HT-X3006 Chronograph

** PLEASE NOTE:
1. These are only suitable for BB guns, please do not purchase if planning on using pellets rifles.
2. Manual refers to WIFI function that is on another version of the product.

Most likely safety - holding something in your hand next to a barrel of an air rifle aint a great idea.

From a technical perspective I dont see any reasons, apart from possible difficulty in detecting very fast small pellets.

Ive seen the disclaimer on some websites (not all) that the HT-X3006 chrono is airsoft only, but can confirm that (my unit) will detect pellets at .177 air rifle velocities. I think Nate's suggestion about safety is probably the main reason. Although the X3006 has a wider aperture than the X3005, Im still mindful that if the rifle were out of line with the chrono, a pellet hitting the inside would be "messy".
I had to adapt a 3d printed mount to fit snugly around the barrel of my rifle for some peace of mind and even then i thoroughly check alignment before testing.
X3006 is very good value (for those whose units are functioning properly) but I would feel happier shooting over some bigger sensors that arent enclosed.

My Dad has one and made a mount out of a spare 1/2 UNF mod. Means you can check the alignment to the mod before attaching to barrel end which seems safer.

Works fine with .177 sub 12

Here you go. Unfortunately the mod was smaller than the smallest diameter pin holes for fastening, so he made up the difference with a vet wrap roll. Still works fine, but isn't winning any design awards 🤣
