So my thread on TX200 stock mods has led me to have a full go at a custom stock. Im fortunate to have a nice woodworking shop in the garage where I normally make things with straight edges!

Gonna build two stocks, a 'practice' Ash and Sapele effort. I've made three templates so far and have the blanks milled up.

I reckon this could be a good few months project, hope to cut the blanks down in the next fortnight or so.

Idea is to have a heavy target style stock for HFT, loosely modeled on an Air Arms Pro Target I loved shooting with previously.

I wouldn't have separated the cheek pieces, personally would have cut it when ready so you have both sides of one cut from the blade to mate up, and its a solid piece to do your formwork on when in 1 piece before cutting

Small update. I've been struggling to find a 35mm round nose router bit, this is needed for inletting the action.

Bout a cheap imperial 1 3/8'' bit from USA, does a surprisingly good job at bang on 35mm .

Ive got a few other bits to find now.

Thanks, maybe well do this for the stocks. The above is a plywood template and wanted to get a feel for the look of the cheekpiece.

The cheekpiece cut out, is two straight lines and a 25mm dia hole, so easy to replicate. Could even have a different colour/material cheekpiece.

Thanks. Have never come across Wealdon during normal searching. Have ordered the last two router bits I need for the inletting from them.

They are class mate, always next day, always helpful on the phone massive range etc etc. proper tooling

Nearly finished . Mistakes were made, good job I have a second blank to make new mistakes on

Second blank matched to the template. Major mistake when the router lost lock and took a chunk of template and stock . Very luckily, when the inletting and bear trap notch are cut out, it'll be moot.

Next step, sharpen my chisels and very slowly chop out the trigger space. Then inletting.

Little update. Decided im only taking the Sapele stock forward and will leave the Ash for another project.

Cut the trigger guard and first inletting groove. Slowly does it!

Initial inletting done. Action fits nicely, one lapse of concentration and I cut too far back in one place. I have a little epoxy pour curing and then I can fix. Once that is done, I'll clean the cuts and seal with epoxy before starting on the cheek riser.

I have also drilled pilot holes for the stock screws and they line up perfect . Will show that in next picture.

Out of curiosity what are you planning on using for the cheek piece and butt pad hardware wise? Intrigued if you’re making your own.

Or do we have to wait for the reveals?
