Hunting Holding bait for rats

To do a good job of poisoning Rats , you really need the single dose stuff used by the Professionals. You can do pretty good with well set traps without any bait at all , just by putting the traps in the right places

There was somebody on here that used to get large sacks of Wotits floor sweepings free from Walkers the makers and said the rats went mad for it,
I used to work for walkers in leics & once had to crush several tons of cheese & onion crisps as they found some glass in one bag, couldn't face eating another bag for 20 years.....

The cheaper the better.

Another I use is sunflower hearts, which I grind in my coffee grinder, mix with lard to make fat balls for the birds, if you put some oil in so it is a spread, the rats bloody love it.

Sachets of cat food always work for me they can run off with the odd chunk but after a while they will just sit there.

Best one to date split wheat, olive oil and coffee grinds mix it to a loose paste and scatter. Been working a treat, tried a oxo mix with it worked the same 👍

The other day I put half a loaf of dread into our grinder which made very nice bait they loved it, I have used smooth peanut butter, garlic mayo, and cheap garden bird seed mix and all have there place, and it makes my wife laugh when I tell her what its for
I can imagine ground up dread to be quite effective.

Although liquidised fear or minced panic will work just as well ! 😄

I’ve been using honey coated oats ( shoot rats at several polo yards) mixed in with Crucials garlic mayo (Sainsburys £1.30) works very well.. keeps the little lovelies entertained.. Garlic Mayo it’s own works well too.. keeps the rats interested and stationary..

From what’s been posted so far it seems that the smelly baits work well for attracting and tempting rats. Presumably because it has a wider scent radius.

So how about combining mashed-up sardines and garlic mayo ?

Both are cheap, but having said that it rather goes against the grain to put out food for rats which I’d enjoy eating myself ! Seems morally wrong to waist good food.
