After having a Marlin SBL on order for months with no hope of any hitting our shores any time soon, I cancelled that plan and looked elsewhere. Apparently we're bottom of the distribution pile, well Marlin and Viking Arms you won't get my money then.

I wasn't aware that Henry did their newer All Weather side gate model with a longer pic rail like the SBL so that piqued my interest, watched and read some reviews, went to look at one and picked it up. And a very lovely thing it is too, closer in dimensions to the longer Marlin SBL than their shorter Trapper which is good.

Doesn't have a threaded muzzle but the additional loading/unloading option through the mag tube is nice.

Having previously had a close look at my mates Ruger-made SBL a number of times the Henry is every bit as well made and the action is quite slick and it feeds etc very well.

Scope is a Leupold VC-Freedom 1.5-4x28 IER on steel QD mounts.

Always liked the lever guns but that's seriously nice. 👌
Is that the one rated for t-rex. Lol

So we can mark you safer from roaming rex's then? Good...
I suspect seeing a dinosaur or even your common bear or bison in sunny Kent is sadly unlikely.
We'll seen it can handle a few bits of paper next week.

I'd love a longer pic rail for my marlin 45/70 but there doesn't appear to be any in the uk, so it's crappy opens only for me.

Ouch, £98!!
Might hold off until I go to the States, see what Cabelas have.

They do like the top-level RRP, captive market for a lot of stuff though unfortunately.

Yeah loads of choice and cheap prices if there in person, best option by far.

I wanted the Marlin Silver Grey Laminate SBL 45/70 that I saw the show at Harrogate last May.

When I couldn’t get one I settled for the Marlin Trapper 45/70 in black laminate, it’s an absolute beauty and a beast but I’m loving it 😻 IMG_2194.jpegIMG_2193.jpeg

Nice, I considered the Trapper as one was available but wanted the slightly longer barrel and rail. Basic design is certainly more in-line with the Henry though.

Last time out at the range I fitted a few parts to a friends Marlin, the RPP trigger is a big improvement over OEM.

There's a nice set of laminate furniture in the sales, I'd have it but my 1895 is the straight stock model so I'd have to buy a new curved loop lever as well (at £180!!!).

Hi Rich,

I saw the laminate furniture for the Marlin for sale and I know the seller but I’m saving my cash for the shooting show this weekend at the moment.

It does look nice though, it’s a similar colour to my Browning B525 Silver Laminate

Lovely bit of kit. You'll need that cheek protector... 45-70 Govt kicks nicely. I'd go red dot or holographic sight myself, but each to their own!

As well as factory ammo we were testing some reloads with a 405gr hardcast. The spicier ones definitely had a stout shove, slightly punchier than the 325 Hornady Evolutions...!
