Help me with a budget Weihrauch, please!

Whats your take on having springers tuned?

I think im between either a HW30 or spending out on a 77/97 but everywhere I look i see bits about tuning them.

Required? Or just a nice to have?

Thanks

I'm relative novice shooter, and definitely so with springers, but with my limited experience from my HW97 and HW35 I would say that a tune is just a nice to have if you are just wanting to do target shooting at a range. Although I would imagine that this would be different for competition shooting and possibly hunting? 🤔

I forgot to mention in my previous post, the I also have a HW97KT which I also love, however the HW35 feels nicer and easier to shoot, but it would be difficult to choose between them in regards accuracy (with a scope) over 25 yards as both are brilliant in my opinion.

Get yourself down to your local club, there’s usually a selection of member owned springers on show, provided you show an interest and act in a reasonable way most members will let you have a try
Until you try one for fit and weight it’s hard to advise, you have a good selection to pick from, both break barrel and underlever
Once you have a short list you can start looking, tuning is not essential, you will achieve more by practice and learning your own rifle, once you are at a stage where you can make an informed decision you could look at the tuning options.

I have three Weihrauch springers: a 97K in .177, a 95K in .22, and I've recently added a 77 in .22.
I thought my HW97K was a great rifle but I find the HW77K just as accurate but (in .22) noticeably easier to shoot...or rather, easier to be accurate with.
My 77k is paired with a Hawke Airmax 2-7x32AO on Sportsmatch low mounts (which are just high enough to clear the rifle body) and it is an absolute joy to shoot. So much so, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I currently let’s say own lots of different 77’s, Airmasters, Venom tuned and standard, they honestly all shoot differently
I never personally advise on which is best as everyone has there own preference, even scopes suit different eyes

One of these looked nice, only thing which put me off was the cheek piece on the stock, looks really low.
HW99 and HW57 same deal with a leaver vs break barrel 99. they are a sporter hunter stock not ideal for scope or repeatable hold it has to be said, use a cheek raiser even a neoprene slip on packed out with whatever to get the repeatable mount or if running standard mount scope a shade further forward not so you are straining your neck but just have a visible ghost ring round the edge of lense helps but far from ideal its the price you pay for hunter stocked sporters i am sorry to say.

Weihrauchs Marmite gun HW57 ,light ,accurate ,underlever.
Love the 57its incredible the only thing that might throw a bit of a spaner in the works for the OP is the requirement for target shooting, yes you can shoot a hw57 at targets at least one person campaigns one in HFT comps , but ok its just me perhaps but i view the HW57 as a walk about at dawn and dush hunter not my idea of a target gun. Its probably just me i dont know. But either way HW57s are an incredible rifle.

Oh, I'd beg differ. Whilst the 99 is indeed a sporter/ field rifle in the main, the stocks are perfectly fine for scopes, as long as one has a sensibly sized scope in relation to the platform. The downfall comes with mounting up stupidly large scopes cradled in too high rings.... Though they're still not the pick of the litter for a dedicated, bag rested, " paper puncher". This un is tuned down to 9 ft.- lbs. & a taste is a nightmare for all it's pointed at.👍IMG_20251012_094625866.jpg

Another for the HW 77/97. I’ve sold loads of springers and my 97 is the only one I refuse to let go. You’ll easy pick a used one up for your budget. Keep your powder dry and wait to get access to the sales pages on here. 50 meaningful posts and you’re in. Buying from another enthusiast will get you a minter.

I’ve also been looking at the Weihrauch rifles and I’ve decided on a HW95.
It’s apparently their most sold Airgun for all round features.

Yeah i think this is the direction I'm going to go, I've already go access to sales so I'm either going to keep an eye out or put up a wanted posted for one and see what comes about, thanks

My recomendation is based on your target requirement, Which kind of steers me to a .177, but i really dont like the shot cycle of the HW97/ 77 if you insist on iron sights in .177.
I would go with a .20 or .22 and yes i am recomending what i own the typical thing some people do, but i feel i have a point i had a hw77 years ago in .17790s i remember it was a bit brutal sharp snappy call it what you will, but time heals and it was not until i shot a mates 97.177 vs his TX200 .177 just how stark the difference was compared to my .20 and .22 97s. I acctualy far and away prefer the 97s over the TX200 in every way, BUT in stock form the TX200 .177 is nicer on the shot action than any stock HW97 and i far prefer the .177 TX200.
Now having explained all that on the .177 HW97/77, i would recomend this A HW97 in .20 if you want the .177s flatish trajectory, Dont get bogged down with lack of options in .20 you only need H&N and JSB they do .20s about the only downside is finding one used they are not that common new never mind used. Which brings me to number 2 option. A use .22 HW97K, they are everywhere cheap and beautiful shot cycle even when in the 11s ftlbs the .177s more often than not are being run in the 10s to mid tens to try and smoothe out that snappyness its what folks do. The .22 even the .20 has none of that malarky they are smoothe as silk as they come.
All the best whatever you choose.

Im a Weihrauch fan but my first foray into pcps after giving up on a lifetime of HW springers I made the mistake of buying a cheap(ish) rifle. Very quickly i regretted that decision, moved it on and bought a HW100. If I were you I'd make the most of borrowed guns and save up and get a good used HW.

Good call. They are about 7.5 to 8 ft/lbs, but sublime to shoot, and accurate to 40 m, I prefer .177 for it's flatter trajectory.
I have several, and in no way does the hw30 compromise in performance, it is even a very competent hunting rifle to about 30 m or more.
I've just completed a Club HFT Competition today with my HW30S.....and I certainly didn't disgrace myself..
Prior to using the the HW30 I used HW98's for many years, which are as good as you get when well fettled.
