I bought a gassless MIG welder from Ebay a couple of weeks ago for £68.00. It also has a lead for stick welding and a digital amps display, a roll of MIG wire, rudimentary hammer/brush and a joke mask. I bought an auto dimming mask from Ebay for £10.00 and a pair of welding gauntlets from Toolstation for £8.00.
I'll try it out over the weekend.

Just as an aside this repair was the first thing I ever welded, using my Lidl special. I'm pretty expert at soft soldering (both electrical/electronic and structural) with torches and irons and silver soldering (structural), and have done a bit of brazing. But a total novice at welding. My repair was a bit agricultural (groan ) but plenty strong enough and looked OK after cleaning up with a grinder and spraying some zinc primer on The longest part of the job by far was grinding down to clean metal to do the welds in the first place.







I also replaced a clamp on my log splitter with one I made from a short bit of rod welded to the top of a bolt - this can easily be tightened up by hand. The standard part had a plastic knob which you couldn't grip hard enough to do up tight enough, so kept coming loose.



Again a totally amateur job, but it works brilliantly and I'll hopefully get better

I was in Lidl today and they had the same inverter welder that I have on special offer for £59.99, and automatic welding masks for £19.99.
