Evening all, I just wanted a general opinion on hard or a soft cases, what members use and the reasons why? I’m wondering if my hard case is causing POA issues that I’m currently having at the mo.
PS sorry for the clickbait title!

If your hard case is of proper depth to accommodate the rifle, has sufficient room to house foam inserts, then it shouldn't be a problem with scope goings on. If you're having weather changes, these may cause a bit of POA/POI impact issues...
I run nothing but capped turrets ...all else is susceptible to outside influences...price paid for lookin' tactical.🙂

I have hard cases for my air rifles but use soft cases to take them to the club, and soft cases for my rimfires and centrefires as they are easier for me to move around. I've never had an issue with poi changes, and can't see any reason I would unless I knocked the rifles hard and even then it takes a really hard bash to loose zero.

Maybe the shift is down to something else then, perhaps the scope itself, all I know is I changed the hard case I had to a smaller one in length. Everything fits snuggly and the width and height are the same. But I’m having to zero every week before shooting whereas before I didn’t.

Which scope? Pop up turrets ? Noticeable temperature swings ?...

A well fitting hard case should offer the best possible protection against knocking sights off-zero. Unless your foam inserts are badly fit and are putting pressure on the scope mounts? I prefer a nice well-padded soft case, as I have limited space and find them easier to store and more comfortable to carry.

Do you carry your rifle scope down in the case? Does the rifle move in the case so that the scope rests on the base of the case rather than being supported by the foam?

I am thinking the exact opposite to you. I am sure the barrel pressing against the soft case is causing me POI changes. I removed my barrel band and it improved. I currently looking to change to a hard case.

For me I tend to only use a decent gun bag, hard cases go in the loft until I move something on 😁
Have one bag with everything I could need in it, tools, targets, thermal target tape etc then whatever rifle comes out of the safe I've always guaranteed I've got what I need for any eventuality!

It’s certainly something I’m considering too👍🏻

The rifle sits corner to corner (if that makes sense) with the scope on the handle side, so it should be well supported. It’s always in the same position when I open it anyway.

That's what the problem is.
Case is too short for the gun.
It's putting pressure on the barrel, causing the poi shift.
