Groups at 55 yards?

Thats exactly my question, could you take any gun and shoot that group? Or could anyone take your gun and shoot that group. Need to control the variables to some extent, so that's my question.
I have rifles from late 50's to 2019 to my shed rifles . and as far as i can tell theres not a bad barrel on any of them they all seem to hit what im pointing them at .

10 mm bull with a 6 shot 8 by 6 mm group is

Or a 20 shot 10mm group shot with a 1996 AR5 Ripley

10 shot 40yard with a TX200

HW35 40 yards
feck knows how many shots as i was testing a rebuilt rifle . trigger not set up .

I have 3 guns that I utilize at 55 yards (50 meters), they are 2 rimfires and 1 PCP:

Ruger 1022 - 5 shots c-t-c about 25-30 mm

Brno Model 5 - 5 shots c-t-c 20-25 mm

FX Airguns Elite - 5 shots c-t-c 10-15 mm

My rule of thumb is: half the amount in millimeters of the length to the target in meters.

Exemple: 5 shot shots c-t-c within 25 mm at 50 meters.

If a springer is used: double the millimeters.
If the group is shot with 10 shots: +60%

It is - of course - possible to shoot fine results at 50 meters even with a low power rifle (like 12 fpe) BUT it does require indoor shooting or (rare) absolute still conditions outdoors, with absolutely no wind - unless the shooter processes unique skills, most likely acquired by so much dedicated training and spent time that it is usually very unlikely for a regular shooter to achieve.

Since it's very unlikely for a common enthusiast to either enjoy optimal circumstances everyday or close to savant shooting skills I would claim 50 meters to be beyond the usable range for non-FAC airguns in general, and thus not recommended for hunting at such range or beyond...

So over 7.2mm group at 50m means the gun is no good?

Jesus Christ, I know I'm bad at darts but looks like I should give up shooting as well

Ctc groups, I forgot to add that. So in my case using that .177 gun groups should be 12mm edge to edge or less which those groups I posted are roughly. But yes, I expect 1/2" or less holes from my guns at that distance and those that I use at 50m or longer distances can do it. The idiot behind trigger then reads the wind wrong or does other stupid things spreading out the groups but that's how it goes.

Ah ok, CTC makes more sense. I was thinking 1/2 MOA so under 8mm OTO, at 50m is exceptional shooting considering the QC on pellets.

If you are shooting at 50yds out doors you will never get repeatable groups every time straight off the start. First thing see how much wind deflection you get and start aiming upwind of your target even a wind you cant feel on your cheek is guaranteed to move your shot. Assuming your gun was zeroed indoors and was bang on zero. DO NOT under any circumstances alter your scope settings. When i was hunting out to long range with my sub 12 guns i used to put out a spinner on a stake at the distance and area i expected the rabbits to emerge to get an idea of the wind deflection. I almost never put the cross hairs on the rabbit's head most times a couple of inches off the vital spot to allow the pellet to curve in. Altering you scope settings and you are really ..... in the wind! Some days your groups will be great others not so great.

Groups at any distance depend on so many things, but mainly just the one, had many good groups with various sub 12 rifles, with good scopes and decent conditions at various ranges etc, at 50 yards its even possible for me to put them in a 5p group, but give me a springer and even at 30 yards you wouldn't have a coin big enough to cover the group 🤣
All down to skill, ability, experience and equipment, just my 2p worth 👍🏻

The other week i was shooting my hw99 springer some shots were going left of the bull others upto the right. The problem was after cocking the gun my supporting hand wasn't always exactly in the same position. With my thumb on the same spot of the patterning on the stock i got some great groups. When i used to have my HW97 i stuck a velcro spot on my stock so i always held the rifle the same way.

Like I say...ain't no " hold sensitive" springers, just " hold sensitive" shooters.🙂

Its threads like this that I get a couple of posts into and then think why do I bother shooting :), everyone seems to be doing so much better than you could ever do, bit like perusing Facebook I suppose:).

Dude !!!!! Enough with the " Negative Waves" , Moriarty!!! The only thing that keeps one from their " lofty goals" is a bit of determination...👍 Get on out there & shoot it like you stole it ! Set yourself a goal & attain that goal!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂😁😁😁!

Good morning what groups are you all happy with at 55 yards I find I can be very A**L when it comes to group sizes curious to see what you consider a good group at 55 cheers

This is five shots at 55 yards, using my EV2 prototype:
5 shots 35 yards.JPG EV2 Prototype 3.JPG
This was shot over the knee, FT style on a nice calm day.

This one is nine shots at 55 yards using my Shamal 'Kompac 88':
55 Yards.JPG Kompac 88 b.JPG

This was also shot FT style over the knee, but it was quite a breezy day and I was just going with the same aimpoint and observed what effect the wind was having (on me as well as the pellets).

Overall I am perfectly happy with those, probably would have done better off a rest or bipod, but for off the knee quite acceptable.

We were all crap once mate but we never gave up . yes some day even today are not as good as they could be .
So we learn . adapt and overcome and try to do better .
practice practice and more practice you will get there . your biggest competition is your self 🙂👍

Hello Master Chris 🙂👍
Hola, Grand Master J. 🙂
Listenin' to Meli- Ethridge at this typing ... " The Only One" ... Says a bit about " whole bunch" - love the rifle, finish it's sentences, be a whole bunch of " Only One". Off now to seriously dig on some Mark Knopfler. " Sultans of Spring"😁😂 .22-1/2 RPM 🙂.
