I take usually take a good thermos with me when out for the day,
I have a hankering for perhaps going out with one of these( pic) which are also called Kelly kettles instead,
Anybody have any hands on experience of either, i saw a u.k made example on 'how its made' which kindled my interest.
Thanks. 1000002360.jpg

I used one for years in the scouts and they are so easy to use. All you need to do is remember to collect your wood as you are walking and when you stop pour your water in and it boils in a few minutes. I bought a new Kelly kettle this year and used it on a camping trip with my nephews. It really comes into its own when you are using it for a few people. It’s a bit heavy and bulky for just individual use. If I’m on my own now or just out for a few hours I use a fold down stove in my brew kit for a cuppa just to save space and weight.

I have this one and I agree with comments that it’s not really a “field” carry - it’s just too bulky and unstable for cooking (they call it the basecamp set for a reason). Brilliant for water boiling though.

I would always take the Trangia instead, with a flatpack hobo stove - covers the same bases and more for me and is easier to transport and use.
