Thought this might be of interest to some, there's an arborists (tree surgeons) website called arbtalk.co.uk, and within its pages there's a section where you can register as a free tip site either for felled trees or woodchip. Most tree surgeons will be delighted to get shot of the woodchip for free, so if you've the facility to have it delivered (usually by a tip bed lorry / van) it might be worth adding your details.
I'm registered for hardwood felled lumps and one of my neighbours has had both logs and about 5 tonnes of chip. I'd get the chip too but a gravel drive isn't the easiest to shift it from so I bought myself a 15Hp Titan chipper to play with instead.
On a purely gardening theme nice to see some shoots finally appearing from the quagmire. My daffs seem to have put on a growth spurt of several inches overnight and I've some hopeful red Peony shoots emerging.
I think the only plus to this incredibly wet spell is that it makes dredging up bindweed shoots and roots easier. I only need to poke the trowel tip below the surface to hit a veritable cats cradle of white roots. One wheelie bin already half full of the blasted stuff!
