Have a real love for fly fishing and flytying, I’m ok at the flytying and just love to go in the spare room when I’ve got a few hours to spare, it’s already set up so can leave and go back when I want too but ita never very often that it’s tidy 🤣are their many more people on here that tie flys and if so? What is your set up? Look forward to seeing them, many thanks, Ian 👍🏻🎣

This thread is just calling out for (close-up) photos. I saw a couple of minutes of it on tv recently, fascinating. Much more interesting than those 30-minute programs watching somebody baking a cake or boiling an egg.

I'm toying with the idea of fishing flies on UL spinning tackle at a couple of waters this year - need to do some learning about patterns for coarse fish and get some tying gear. Any suggestions?

Not tied any for course fish to be honest, will do a little homework see what patterns people use 👍🏻

Thanks - would appreciate a steer. Many moons ago as a lad I did a bit on a local stream and caught some nice dace and chub. I've no idea what the fly was, it was given to me - best I can describe, it looked like one of Dennis Healey's eyebrows 🎣

I fly fish and make the flies . I do saltwater mainly now Bass in the UK in the main , i was a a river bailiff for a very big club years ago and did a lot of Trout , seatrout , salmon ( still have all my kit but i find stocked fish somewhat uninspiring ) . I also travel abroad my favourite it Cape Cod . I wrote about pike on the fly and Bass in a few books and magazines in the 90s
I do a lot of lure fishing in fresh water and salt also i am currently considering doing some guided Sea Bass , Salmon and Seatrout fishing through my Contacts , time will tell . I do get far more enjoyment guiding folks to successes than i do with my own rod now

That’s brilliant mate, bass are a lovely fish, do you use soft plastics too?

I used to tie my own, eyesight and dexterity prohibit the enjoyment of it now.
I have some lovely cane rods, hand made for me, and some hardy and Shimano reals, the Shimano are better quality.

I recently had to get glasses, couldn’t see a thing😩works of art cane rods and totally agree on shimanos, so well made.

The cane rods cost a small fortune to have made, but they are stunning, one is 8foot6 9 weight, the other a 6 foot 3 weight brook rod,

Very nice, is the 9 weight for pike?
It will take pike up to maybe 8 or 9 lbs, I used it on open water for rainbows mostly, it killed them quick,as only a cane rod can, lazy casting technique required, where the little brook rod is super nimble with a quicker, though not fast, action.
