Home Office guidance is ten section 1 firearms (not including moderators) or any section 7.3 you need enhanced security

It varies between forces I think, my FEO (Avon &Somerset) told me that they followed UK Home Office guidance that stated , a "substantial" number of weapons that suggests the need for an intruder alarm is typically six to ten firearms. Holding more than ten firearms requires enhanced security. I was told that if I wished to add an extra slot on my FAC (taking held guns to six) they would like some sort of extra security. I suppose I could argue the point but I would not want to alienate myself with them.

I've got a Brattonsound cabinet I bought from Sportsmanguncentre. They deliver to your door for a fixed charge of £40 or so.
As others have said above, if you want to store scoped rifles then make sure the cabinet is deep enough to accommodate the rifle and the scope. If the rifle has a SLR/AR15 type hand grip then its even more important to get one deep enough. Minimum depth is 345mm outside dimension for a scoped rifle with hand grip. The cabinet is 1310mmx404mmx345mm (HxWxD) outside dimension, and has 7 slots in the foam insert separating the rifles. I have 5 rifles in the cabinet and cannot fit in another as some are fitted with scopes with ballistic turrets. The ballistic turrets take more room than a bolt (you can always remove the bolt), although you can stagger the height of the turrets by placing alternative rifles on wood blocks. If you don't have ballistic turrets and take the bolt out, then you'd get at least one more rifle in my cabinet.

One more point is the above cabinet has a vault type door which takes up some of the usable cabinet depth.

The only issue with Brattonsound that I have heard of (and might be true for other makes) is if you fit it upside down, the recommended way to have the door open the other way, the hinges/lock can jam.

You can (or at least could when I bought one of mine) get Brattonsound cabinets made with the hinges on the opposite side, direct from the factory.

I went for a Spika. I thought the external ammunition cabinet, which means you don’t have to open the main cabinet to access was a great idea. Also not unattractive either, fully carpeted, magnetic interior light, along with fixings included

I have a bratton sound extra deep 7 gun cabinate i have 7 bullpup rifles in it all but one, JUST fit with scopes attached. So really 6 guns.

I have this one, but already wish I had the next size up, as I am licensed for 5 calibres and shotgun.

If it helps this is my Brattonsound RL7+

Five shotguns (four over/unders, one semi) and two rifles fit OK, but rather sung. As above it's the scope turrets (and bolt handle on the semi shotgun) that are the issue. I fitted a second foam barrel rest lower down as my riles didn't reach the fitted one when mods are off. That helped fit them all in, with rifles and semi shotgun flipped so their 'sticky outy' bits don't clash with the O/U's.

Depends on budget, I bought a cheap 6 gun safe and a large ammo safe, I would say I've done ok, and fit 6 in ok, but only 2 are scoped, don't think it would be easy if all were. I would like a bigger rifle safe but it does for what I want (and fits in the small wardrobe ok)and as someone pointed out my FAO wants me to install an alarm if I open any more slots I currently have 1 section 2 and 4 section 1 firearms.

To add to that I would say a large ammo safe is a must, I don't think I would get my ammo and bolts etc into a small built in safe, might just be me tho....

You want the deepest possible cabinet for scoped rifles ... BS RL5+ or RD7+ would be my recommendation

Absolutely, and get one that is at least three guns more capacity than you are ever dreaming of getting

Don't go too small as you are guaranteed to fill it up + you want to house your guns comfortably so you not knocking them against each other.

I've picked up all my Brattonsound safes off Ebay for half the price of new, in excellent condition, just have to pick them up.

I've just applied for my FAC, mainly for .22LR. I now need to get a cabinet before the police come round for their checks. Can anyone recommend a cabinet or provide any buying advice before I go out and purchase something unnecessary or too small?
I have been looking at Lokaway at my RFD, but they are expensive. Do you get what you pay for, or are cheaper ones ok?
What size shall I go for? I will be storing scoped rifles, so how many can I realistically expect to store in, say, a 10-gun cabinet?

No top box ammo, no thick door taking space, make sure dept is at least 25cm, to accommodate rifle scoped. Bin the bolts that come with it. Buy normal 3 inch length 8mm thick screws. Do your holes, vacuum dust, put plugs and the screw with metal washer inside. Vertically or horizontal doesn't matter, as long as it is secured and flushed. But a £20 separate safe from Argos or B&M install it same way. Important thing is that its not visible from windows or casual visitors. ...even the ££££ gun cabinets can be opened in 60sec cutting and hatch on the side with a grinder...you only need show reasonable steps to secure fac, not forth Nox. I've got a number of them and they have worked fine for years, even if made in china.

Should have said that the separate safe is for ammo, bolts, mods, mags, and anything else you don't want the wife to know about
