Did someone on here make a blank cartridge holder?

Im sure I saw on here someone had made a holder for starter pistol blanks.
I think it consisted of a sheet of metal with holes in for the blanks to sit, then another piece on top to hold them in place.
Anyone know what I mean, and have a pic of it?

Yes I made one,

Despite taking serious time abd measured exactly etc.

Made of 2 pieces of stainless one drilled to hold the cartridge with a snug fit then another piece over the top with holes just big enough to hit the primer cap from memory second plate had small holes 5/6mm max can't quite remember sorry.

Then 4 bolts and wing nuts to hold together and a nice ground spike welded on.

Spent good few hours (in work on it)

When I used it great for a few times then no idea how or what happened but when I hit one of the blanks it exploded and something fired back at us.

We a good 30/35 yds away and whatever came back was incredibly fast as we heard a fizzzz ping noise followed by a loud bang on the back wall behind us.

We lucky no one hurt but that was the end of that device still no idea what happened as was made from thick stainless 4mm plates and nuts done up tight.

So be careful if you go down this route

That would have been the primer.

Can't remember what I did with the jig now either.

Remember being bit annoyed as was good challenge and reactive to say the least but lucky escape and never used again

I've made a few in the past @Paulos , for both 6mm and 9mm blanks.

Just dug them out of my paraphernalia box...




I've got a couple of video's of them on my YouTube channel...

The hardest part is getting the spent slugs back out of the holder once they've splayed out at the back.

Sometimes you have to drill them back out

i personally think shooting primers/blanks etc is a very dangerous pastime.

I bought a similar target from a member of the old AGF. Can't remember his name or username, but the target was called the Rondo...

I can probably understand your reasons for not shooting them yourself but, why do you consider it a 'very dangerous' pastime?

I've shot 100's of them with no issues at all. It's all about safety, and as long as you have that in place I don't see a problem.

you cant tell exactly where the richocets are going to go.maybe left,maybe right or even straight back towards you.
im not completely oblivious to this,as as a younger man with less sense, i used to shoot blanks,but one (the last)
occasion, not sure if it was lead or part of the blank,struck the oil drum i was using as a rest with quite some authority.
if it had hit me in face/eye neck,who knows,but i dont want to find out.

Yes, someone made a steel plate one, and tincantony had a video (or two) of them being used, not sure if his own design or the other guy who made one.
Plus you can buy "Ares" ones on Amazon.
I have made a very cheap and simple card holder one, just poke hole in thick card and push the blanks into the card, can cover them with tape if they fall out, also did one with multiple blanks, not very loud though, not as good as the Firebird ones.

Although I have shot blanks, I too am a bit wary of richochets, but, I only shoot them at 30yds or more, so not close. And they are on card (soft material) and no hard backstop behind (open ground at the range) so a rebound or richochet is unlikely, but I take your point there is potential for danger....

You're in luck.

I've just pulled it out of my paraphernalia box.

This is one sturdy target - two 4mm thick discs of 304 stainless steel. The steel fixing plate is of my own making...



















Just PM me your address details and it's all yours. I'll get it posted out to you tomorrow.

I won't include the 6mm blanks themselves, because I'm not sure if I can post these via Royal Mail. If anyone else knows better then let me know and I'll include them.

Make sure you screw or bolt it to something substantial.
