corkscrew hazel

i have a corkscrew hazel in the garden ,its only 2 mtrs high , the middle of the branches have gone a dusky silver colour and no leaves growing on it. the normal colour branches have growing buds on them and catkins forming. its been through a rough time this year with not a lot of rainfall . what do you think ?

I can’t give a definitive answer, but I think it may be a natural aging process.
The older the bark the more it has to contend with. I have seen Hazel bark open up and peel.
Yours looks healthy & well maintained to me 👍
 
@Birchy , thank you very much for your input , i guess time will tell when spring arrives then we will see what its like.
