I was talking to one of my step sons last week about some of my latest air rifle purchases and he mentioned I will need a bigger cupboard to keep them in. I said I may get myself a gun cabinet and his reply was "stuff buying one we can make one"

He owns a fabrication company and always has a few offcuts lying around.

Turned up today with a rough drawing of what I was looking for and we got to it.

I have never done anything like this before, I was a land surveyor and never had a hands on job.

Here I am with the plasma cutter

and here doing a bit of welding

No I wont be showing my welds as I was told they are not the prettiest but will do the job and not too bad for a first attempt 🤣

So far we have the frame and I plan on going back soon as we need to replace the hinges with more suitable ones, add some feet to it and a way of locking it, it's coming on well and I had a great time.

Will update as and when we continue

Thanks for looking

I'd take my hat off to you if I wore one ;)

Good on you, remember to drill some holes in it for mounting it to a wall (y)

Well done I have done a bit of fabrication work in my time & would have made a box section frame inside to support the corners & around the inside of the doorway to fix the locks too. but it should do the job without flexing as is.

Those welds are pretty good !

I used to work for a company that made cabinets like that.. we had to "train" a robot to tig weld along the corners and they all had to be ground by hand afterwards to make them pretty for plastic coating.

So well done great job !

Amazing! Did you manage to avoid getting Arc Eye?
I always find it odd that metal working smells.. I'm used to wood. And expect that to smell, but don't feel metal should.
