Well I’ve had it quite a few months now and thought for those that might be interested I’ll tell how I’ve got on with my Cometa Fusion Star .22

It was actually back in July when l bought the first Fusion Star, then a .177 but after a couple of weeks trying at least a dozens different pellets, l wasn’t getting anything like a respectable group at 20 yards, also the gun was very harsh and not very nice to shoot.
Just a couple of the many cards….

Not wanting to give up on the gun l decided l would strip it down and see what was going on, after all there had been so much hype about these guns, something wasn’t right! Well something indeed wasn’t right because the quality of the internals was just atrocious. I won’t go into everything that was wrong but the worst was a bent and very badly cut spring. Not wishing now to take this gun any further it went back for a replacement but this time l swapped it for a .22 hoping for a smoother action.
The replacement arrives and to be honest l found no difference and no matter what I tried, the groupings were still pretty awful.

Is it me? I do have PCPs but I’m a springer shooter at heart and always have been. So, again, not wishing to give up that easily l stripped this one down as well and what l found was equally as awful as the first one! Come on Cometa, you must have a quality control department surely??
To cut this long story short l decided to put in a full @WelshWilly kit that, l have to say, along with a few other things like bending the bent cocking shoe straight and getting it flat, transformed the gun. It now cocks beautifully and is no longer harsh to shoot.

However, while it does shoot much better l have found it to be very pellets fussy and extremely hold sensitive.
Although it is now grouping nicely with Superdomes I am finding it hard work. By that l mean l can pick up my HW99 and 77 and hit the targets without too much thought, but the Cometa need a lot of coercing. By the end of the day the card below was slightly improved upon but as l say it took some concentration!

It has certainly been a bit of a journey and a really shame as it’s such a lovely looking rifle. I have heard of others with similar problems so l’m relieved to know it’s not just me! Oh well, I’ll persevere some more with it and maybe one day we might just gel!
Thanks for reading, hope you found it interesting, Woody.
