Sorry if this has been asked before.
What are people's preferences on cleaning rods for the 17hmr.
Looking at dewey, tipton, boretech, pro-shot any others you can recommend?

And also the best place to buy them.

I have been using a parker hale one but have scuffed the coating again.
Would it be advisable to use a bore guide.

Look forward to your replies

I have cleaning rods with the plastic coatings, but deliberately avoided them for the HMR.
Some people poo poo the use of guides, but i would say that they are definitely of benefit, particularly with the smaller calibres.

Have to agree , bore guides are pretty much essential with plastic coated rods . Any flex and the rod coating will cut as it touches the throat or rifling .
Big fan of bore guides , not so much plastic coated rods . I still have my delron (CZ 455) guide and Parker Hale rod for an hmr , just in case I buy another.

Have just ordered teh Possum Hollow delrin bore guide from Reloading Solutions.

And the VFG 4-4.5mm stainless, one piece, rod from Alan Rhone.

Both for the incoming .17HMR barrel for my CZ457.

What length barrel have you gone for on the cz457?

Gone for a 20" Varmint.

Would have liked a 16", but SGC don't seem to import it as a mini-set. It's available in a full rifle with the Synthetic or MTR stock though.
Yeah I have the 20" barrel, I looked at the cleaning rod you have ordered, but the length I saw was a to short, or was I looking at the wrong one.
The parker hale I have now is 36" and is just about right.
That's why I asked.

Have just measured.

With rod inserted into Possum Hollow No.95 Bore Guide (.17) it leaves 550mm from end to end of threads on rod, 577mm to the end of the VFG felt adapter.

Adding the PH solvent port adapter makes it 490 / 517mm.

Hopefully it will do the trick with the VFG felts, will see when I get the barrel.

How much was your .17 hmr kit for the 457 if you don’t mind me asking. Had hmr on my ticket now for a few years and never scratched the itch. Had one years ago, good short range foxing round.

Yes to bore guides, in answer to the OP question. Any one of those that you mention and TBH any you can get hold of.

Anyway, back on subject, a pull through with patches is all my last one needed after 100 or so rounds to keep it sweet. Leave the copper where it is. 🫣

The .17HMR Mini-set (so barrel, 5 round magazine, and tools) is listed on the importers (Sportsman Gun Centre) at £224.99

Should be available from any dealer that has a trade account with them, price might be vary a little dependent on your relationship with the RFD.
