We were travelling through the north of England last week coming home from Scotland and took a wrong turning which took us round the outskirts of Bradford which apparently has a clean air zone , I had no idea whether we had been in it or not so I searched online to check , there's nowhere to enter a registration number to find out if I need to pay so this morning I rang Bradford council and was put through to the clean air department who told me they can't / won't check if a vehicle has been in the zone or not as it's all done by computer ! I had no option but to go online and pay £9 or risk a £60 fine but I have no idea whether I was in the zone or not
Also it's not like ulez where you pay by emissions as cars and motorcycles don't pay but commercial vehicles do , my VW Transporter has the same engine as a Golf of similar age so it's not down to emissions but the shape of the vehicle ?
