There are a few houses near me that have put their decorations up a week or two ago. I used to scoff and criticise those doing this, why so early? It’s not even December yet etc…

Then it dawned on me, nobody knows what is going on behind closed doors. It could be some poor soul’s last Christmas, so I don’t comment anymore and if I do it’s probably just compliments.

Live and let live….

I myself am far too excitable so I have to hold myself back until the first of December, then the tinsel, fairy light, bauble onslaught begins.

When do you do yours?

Put my outside lights up a few weeks ago but never turned them on till this weekend, main reason was it was a nice calm day with no wind, around my way being near the see it could be wet and windy for weeks so I thought I would put them up while I had the chance.
I have not put any decorations up in doors yet I will prob do that this weekend in between other jobs.

A valid point. My sister was dying of cancer and knew she wouldn't make it to Xmas.. so she brought it forward to late October/early November. Tree up, decs up and Xmas shopping., it pleased her.

She passed away Dec 8th. It was a heartbreaker opening her presents on Xmas morning.. a week after we'd buried her. But it honoured her memory.

Also I think some people want to brighten up what is a pretty crap existence nowadays. Can't blame 'em really...

Used to be 1st Dec.
Now I prefer 2 weeks b4 or I get bored of em and the magic is lost.

I know someone who put em up Christmas Eve.

That’s truly sad and the exact reason I don’t scoff anymore. Love and peace to your sister my friend. My wife has had treatment for cancer within the last 18 months and we now hope we’ve seen the back of it. Daily medication keeps it at bay.

Always the nice people mate…. 😔

My wife is currently battling cancer so I know your pain all too well. My very best wishes to your wife and your good self.

Is it too early to wish someone a Merry Christmas?? LOL..

When we were growing up, our dad would wait till we were in bed Christmas Eve, then he would decorate the upstairs landing, the stairs, the downstairs hall, and the living room, including the tree, so that my brother and me (obviously the first ones awake on the day!) would come out of our room and see everything transformed overnight! I often think when I see them up in November (or even earlier sometimes!) that I would be fed up with the sight of them, or more likely, have got so used to them they didn't even register, by Christmas.

Normally nothing before the 1st of December, thats plenty soon enough but as you say there may be an exception where it may be somebody's last christmas or some similar circumstance.
When the family were alive we used to put up the decorations about 2 weeks before christmas.
Now i don't bother and regard Christmas as a slight interuption.
And i certainly don't want to be reminded of Christmas at the start of November as we now are where television is concerned.
But there again no doubt on Boxing Day we'll be subjected to summer holiday adverts.

I used to work for a company that serviced/repaired the booking in machines at Travelodge and Premier Inn hotels. One year, I was too late with getting any Christmas holiday, so I had to work Boxing day. As it happened I had to go to the hotel next to Westfield, Stratford. What depressed me more than anything was to see the vast crowds of zombies milling round the shops. They had just spent the last month spending all their money on useless shite for people they hardly knew, and now they were out spending more money they didn't have on more useless shite to fill the hole where their soul used to be. I could have nuked the whole f*cking place without a backward glance...

That would have been so magical ⭐

Yep, Two weeks before the day is plenty early enough …. My crazy neighbour had a Halloween tree up (I kid you not 🙄) first weekend in October, that came down and Xmas tree went up on 5th November, bloody Ridiculous …… 😏

Us personally …. Not put a tree or any decorations/lights up for the last 3 years, can’t see the point 🤷🏻‍♂️
