I have an old BSA Supersport that i've had since my teens and it could do with a little TLC. Theres some slight pitting in places and i'm not sure what the internals are going to be like after all this time.

So is restoring an old springer a DIY job or is it best to send it somewhere to have it gone over by a pro?

I know its not worth a great deal so I wouldn't be doing it to increase its value it would just to be to bring it back from the brink, but what sort of costs would I be looking at?

The internals may be o.k, give the outside a good rub with an oily cloth and see what it comes up like, the trouble and cost of posting a gun to and fro for blueing and servicing would most likely make a home project the best option, when its oiled put a pic up and take it from there, they are fairly straightforward to fix, all parts are available and there are a few common issues that are easily addressed,
I have a Birmingham made one myself

They're simple beasts to work on and absolutely worth the time and effort. I've done a couple of mid 80's examples and put @WelshWilly kits in both along with new piston seals from Custom Air Seals (aka Aussie seals). There's very little to go wrong with them. Pretty simple trigger unit. They make a great introduction to working on spring rifles if you've never done one. Go for it. You'll be glad you did. (y)
